My fishing partner and I booked 2 days on the San Juan with John Kelley and stayed in the enchanted hideaway lodge associated with this facility. The room was pretty solid for a fishing trip and close to river. Our guide was exceptional and put us on the fish. He went above and beyond to ensure that we got what we were looking for. He even stayed on the river a little past dark on the first night to ensure we caught enough stockers for dinner.

The two most important things to me when using a guide are personality and flexibility. John was great to talk to and we enjoyed shooting the breeze on the river while we caught fish. Secondly, he did not force his fishing techniques onto us though we certainly took his recommendations. There were multiple times where we all brainstormed together to come up with solutions for catching fish when they weren't biting on what we were using.. sometimes to great results. I've been with many guides who have ego's and aren't open to this sort of collective ideation.

John is a personable and humble guide who I would certainly suggest to anyone looking to have a good time catching fish on the mighty San Juan.

Four of us stayed 3 nights with 2 days of guided fishing at the end of October 2023. The only criticism I can think of is that the cabins are dated and a little buggy and dusty around the window sills and hidden corners; but we came to fish, not do a white glove test. Don’t misunderstand: The cabins are quite clean with comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and water pressure and everything works, including a big screen with a huge selection of streaming services, movies etc. Steve and his family are so nice, very accommodating to our quirks and wishes. Leave your diet and food restrictions (although I’m certain Rainbow Lodge will accommodate most any eater) at home because the food is not only really tasty, flavorful and professionally presented, it is also abundant. If guided fishing just isn’t enough, you can walk out your cabin door and be fishing a giant stretch of slow, open water that’s perfect for wading in about 20-30 seconds because the lodge is on the river front. Another plus: there’s a put out ramp just steps from the cabins: A big deal after an active day on the water. Our guides, Kyle and Scott, were just outstanding. Friendly, articulate, exceedingly knowledgeable of the water, holes, lures and willing to untangle your bird’s nest and rig you a new line in a snap. Scott and Kyle were courteous and respectful to the other anglers, but assertive the rare time when the courtesy wasn’t returned; and very patiently these two guides had my son (who never fly casted before) losing count of how many fish he netted on the 2nd day. Thanks to all of you for making our experience so fantastic. We all can’t wait to come out again. I’ll try to do better at cleaning my plate!

Celebrated my sons 40th birthday here with a couple of days of guided fishing and 3 nights at the lodge. My son have done quite a few trips. This was one of the best Steve Gill, his family and staff are the best. Great good and a wonderful time on the water. Special shout out to our guide Doug. We look forward to repeating this trip.

Fishing experience floating the San Juan River with our guide Scotty was excellent! The food at Rainbow Lodge was fabulous ( be sure to bring along a pair of elastic waist pants). Really not kidding! The hospitality of The Gill family: Steve, Joe, Shannon and Sean was delightful. We arrived as guests and departed feeling like family.

Would highly recommend!,

Amazing fishing lodge with very clean and comfortable rooms right on the San Juan river. The owner, Steve Gill, his dad Joe and sister Shannon really make for an enjoyable experience and the food is amazing. Steve and his other guides (Scotty and Matt) really know the river and make sure we catch lots of big fish! Steve even has taught my grandson and granddaughter to be great fly fishers!

Excellent. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Consideration was taken in all the little details. Chef Amber Michelle Silva is top notch. I highly highly recommend you eat at the lodge. Coffee is wonderful. Steve Gill is an amazing guide. Never fly fished before in my life, but with Steve at the helm, I felt completely pro! We had such a grand time. Would do it again and again. Well worth the money. Ditch your tech and float with the best.

This was my 10th visit to Rainbow Lodge using Resolution Guide Services. Love this place because its turn key. They serve 3 meals a day, provide all fishing equipment & guide services, clean but simple accommodations. Been here with many groups, up to 12 people at a time, including my wife and daughter & son in law. Shout out to Guide James Brown for 56 fish today!

We went out for guided fly fishing with Steve. One beginer and one experienced angler. He was a great guide friendly and helpful and really knew the river and gave great advice. The lodge is clean and more updated than some of the others in the area.

First class operation! Great customer service, delicious meals, and excellent fishing even in the off-season. A family owned and operated fishing lodge that goes out of their way to please! We will definitely be back!

This is my 4th time visiting Rainbow Lodge. We usually come in May. We love the friendly staff, great food and top notch fishing. The guides are the best in the business and if you don't catch more fish than you can shake your rod at....you will at the very least catch a buzz and a tan!

I have used many guides on the San Juan and stayed at many if the lodges over 16 years. Hands down this the best! I took my 8 year old grandson and Steve and his team were awesome. Even though the river was high (5,000csf) my grandson caught a lot and learned a lot about flyfishing. The food and accommodations were great and very friendly staff.

Went for a full day float trip Oct. 2012. All gear and lunch provided. Excellent fishing, except for a brief hiatus early afternoon. Even though we started almost 2 hours late (my fault) we received a full 8 hour trip. Very pleased with the service, and highly recommend them.
