The food was good, took a little time to come out but the taste was great and the prices are good.

Discovered this gem while headed to another Mexican restaurant, which was closed when we arrived. I was like "Now what?"

Well I didn't have to walk far, the adjacent building was Cinco Dr Mayo Dos. First off, this is NOT TexMex yuppie fair. Jarritos and flan usually is a good sign.

This was followed by hand made chips and a delicious fresh salsa. The sight of tamales made my foodie heart leap. Real handmade tamales wrapped in corn husks. Delicious.

My companion ordered the first item on the menu. A $5 appetizer of refried beans wrapped in a crisp but light corn tortillas. (Kind of like a corn version of a frijoles chimichanga), that arrived as three covered in toppings. The appetizer easily qualified as an entree.

I ordered a tamale (which I saved and took home) and two tacos ala carte (one barbacoa beef and one carnitas enchilada - spiced pork). Both were good, the latter was amazing.

But here is where they hit my expectations out of the park. Not only were both taxcos large, but they came in amazing handmade tortillas. I was unprepared for the presentation of my two ala carte tacos. They arrived presented with a side of grilled vegetables (tender whole green onions and strips of cactus)b fresh cucumbers, and plenty of lime. Accompanied by two fresh made hot sauces.

All in all this gem was an exciting surprise. I definitely plan to return again, and again, and again. =)

You will have to follow hand written signs to the restaurant in the back which is always manned by the moodiest teenager. God I love this place.
Food is great, service is terrible. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Love the fajitas.

Don't be put off by the store front or the entryway. This place looks like a grocery store, but if you walk inside and wine your way through a couple of turns you will find a small but comfortable dining area.

I ordered the three grilled chicken, Polo Asado, tacos. They were fantastic. Simple but tasty. Loaded with grilled white meat chicken. On the side there were juicy, fresh limes and grilled peppers.

The chips and salsa were outstanding too.

Service was fast and friendly.

Only complaint, they rolled out a mop bucket filled with a very strong smelling cleaner right in the middle of my meal. It took about 10 minutes for the smell to dissipate.

Only complaint, they ruled out a mop bucket filled with a very strong smelling cleaner right in the middle of my meal. It took about 10 minutes for the smell to dissipate. I am NOT hyper sensitive to smells, but this was pretty strong.

But to end on a good note, I walked out stuffed to the gills and satisfied. And the price was less than $10.

Very good selection of dried chiles and other pantry items at a fraction of the cost of Amazon etc. The store was super clean and the produce, cheese, and meats looked fresh and beautiful. We (the kids and I) found the restaurant in the back and ordered tacos to go. The carnitas and pollo asado were fantastic! Great green salsa and a red salsa hot enough to satisfy even the most seasoned heat freak, full of flavor and a good hot kick! Worth the trip, especially if you live or work in the neighborhood

This is an authentic Mexican street-food place. Their ingredients are fresh and clean and really close to the ones they use in Mexico. If you are looking for burritos, nachos, quesadillas (the ones with yellow cheese), or chips and salsa you will be disappointed.

Prices are fair, and the mixtures of flavors is just amazing. I've been there a couple of times with my friends from all over the world and all of them had a positive experience. Go with an open mind and try new things you will certainly love it!

My family is from Mexico and Ive spent many summers there... This is the only place in Maryland that I trust or that I'm willing to say is authentic Mexican food. I use to live in Patterson park and have tolerated other places like Tijuana tacos, but not anymore. Thanks to Cinco de Mayo I can finally get my taco fix. Thou, people should understand this food is authentic, not Tex mex, or Taco Bell!

Truly a hole in the wall - the grocery store spans two rowhouses with a secret Mexican restaurant tucked in the back. It's not fancy (one server, a handful of tables, and a single case fridge of drinks) but you won't care when you have your food in front of you. They make all the right choices with burritos: seasoned rice with diced veggies, stretchy queso fundido, and any one of the delicious meats they make in store. (It's also a butcher!) You can get nopales and, occasionally, huiltacoche quesadillas (a must try if they're available). Seriously underrated - be the first to impress your friends with "this little place I know..."

I love this place. It's within walking distance from my office. Everyone I've gotten food for from there loves it.

Looking at the review from Ola Switala I have a feeling it's was written by the owner of that Tijuana tacos place. lol

Small super market, but best location. I had visited the other location and they didn't have as much or even like the meat market area to get meat for carne asada 😀. They have everything an all I need for my Mex cooking. Fresh Mexican Pan dulce/ baked bread.

Great store and best tacos in town. Real Mexican that doesn't need to lure you in with decor or fancy vibe - real food, real good

Frankly they’re among those who try hard to please their customers I don’t speak Spanish but they make me feel welcome to their store. Better than many stores I have visited in the DMV.

Used to go here every week before covid. Love the food, huge portions, and the restaurant was a well-kept secret so it was always quiet.

A fraction of the price of whole foods and only 2 blocks away. I get all my limes, bananas, and cilantro here as well as Mexican food pantry items.
