The Beach Hive

Our stay was June 17 through June 24 2023. This was our 2nd year in a row that we rented and our last time. This year the quality overall was horrible. The house was very dirty in general. The floors and carpets were filthy. Bathrooms needed a lot of attention. They were not properly cleaned. Both dishwashers did not clean the dishes so we purchased paper plates to avoid constantly hand washing everything. We had to hand wash all the pots and pans and bakeware that we used. One oven heated up but after 30 minutes on 450 the food was still cold. The gas grill was in terrible shape. It was filthy and 2 burners worked the first night we were cooking chicken for 22 people. Then only 1 burner worked the following night. We ended up using the filthy charcoal grill that was hidden in the tall weeds. Needless to say it was not a good experience. The maintenance on the outside of the home was just as bad. Tall weeds and the pool area needed a lot of attention. We could not have been more disappointed with the house. The realtor was contacted many times and one morning we were told that since we were the first to contact that they would be coming shortly. We never saw them at all that day so we called again the next day. Someone did come and looked at the stove and looked at the dishwashers and looked at the unusable gas grill, took some notes, but absolutely nothing was done to improve our stay.
We questioned why the new owners would allow the house to become such a filthy broken down mess. Why? For the price of renting this house it should be in immaculate condition. I hope this review will get posted but I doubt that it will, which is ok, because there are many ways to get this message out. Please don’t be deceived by the pictures and descriptions. After vacationing in the Outer Banks for more than 35 years, I think this experience may be our last. Thank you.
