We drive over when visiting the Whitney area.
A true classic reminiscent of the wild west.
Dauber and his wife are excellent hosts.

Be sure to call the day before and reserve or “guarantee” a steak for you.
Excellent steak at a very reasonable price.

The Hemingway sandwich is excellent but does take a bit of time to be made.

Have a few drinks while waiting, the skinny margarita would be a good choice ;-)

We ventured out to Walnut Springs to check out Blackie's Bait Shop for ourselves after receiving high recommendations. What a great place! Dobber, the owner, is so cordial and friendly. Speaks to everyone before heading to the kitchen to cook your delicious steaks! After the meal, cross the street for Blackie's After Dark for an entertaining night at the piano bar, then stay upstairs for a restful night of sleep. All conveniently located. We had a great time!

We loved everything about blackies! The catfish was some of the best we’ve tried and everything down to the sauces tasted amazing and homemade. The staff was very sweet and the owner was one of the nicest guys we’ve met! 10/10 food and experience! If you can, book a room at the hideaway across the street! That experience was also great! Can’t wait to be back for the famous steak nights.

The Bait Shop is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening! Dobber and the staff are great to visit with, and the food is excellent. Pizza crust with honey, yes, please!

Worth the trip from Dallas. Love the funky decor, the food was great - try the Hemingway Pie, and staff a lot of fun.

This Ribeye steak changed my entire life, hands down the best steak I’ve had in my life! Staff and owner were the friendliest folks around and show true hospitality! We’re from San Antonio Tx and will make it a point to drive up here monthly to get our fix❤

Awesome food, we enjoyed a Great Steak on a Friday evening and then took our kids on Saturday night and they loved the pizza. We will be back! The owner Dobber is just as nice as can be as well as the rest of the staff. We will be back! Thank you for making our dining experience so wonderful. Oh, Minnie is just a gem.

Blackie's Bait Shop - Wow! This place is a true gem! Great food(Dobbers Steak) was by far the best I have had outside of my own back porch😉!
If you are in the area, don't be foolish and miss out on this! The service was awesome, the entire experience was first class! I highly recommend!!

Great food!!! Best steak and baked potatoe ever!!! I order mine medium rare, it was just the right amount of pink and the sauce on top was tasty. Amazing pizza full of flavor!!! Malibu sunrise was good a little weak but still delicious. Service was okay, when they got busy not so much, but was easy to get their attention. Owner was super friendly, came up to greet us as we walked in. Nice restaurant with a great atmosphere :)

Very eclectic décor, super friendly staff and yummy drinks. Amazing, HUMONGOUS STEAKS. Sooooo good. Must call to reserve a steak plate on a Friday or Saturday, as they only have so many each night. Pizza is great here, also. We loved the owner and the older. blonde manager. Shoot. I forgot her name.

Update: Her name is Minnie. They are so gracious and friendly. The food is top notch. We shall return this coming summer.

Great place. Lively enough to enjoy while still being able tho hear a conversation at your table. Atmosphere is fun, love the decor. There is a back yard patio and staying out front. Food was delicious

Great ribeye steak and salad on steak night. My wife thought the steak I cook is better but I thought Blackies was just as good. I'm a steak man and I can make some pretty mean steaks myself. I though the salad was one of the best I've ever had but my wife wasn't a fan of it. We only went here once when we were in the area. I think my wife was having an 'off' night because I thought it was all superb. I am definitely going back here when I'm in the area again! 👍👍

So we are in town to stay at a cabin. We came here at the recommendation of the cabin owner. Well worth the 30 minute drive. Great atmosphere. Good music. Fantastic steak dinner!

Excellent food, service, and decor. Great little town and worth the drive from Metro area. Had great steaks for New Year Eve
