So beautiful, so rich with history and symbolism. I do not have loved ones buried here but I often come to pick catnip that grows wild here and to walk around and spend time with the beautiful tombstones and lovely trees and the old, forgotten graves. Coming here always warms my heart and last time I noticed that someone has spray painted one of the tombstones. Pretty disrespectful, never seen anyone there before besides me and one other car once, but I'm sure it happened at night.

We traveled from California to see a few grave sites. We found the cemetary okay but were at a loss as to where to find the stones. We searched and searched on foot. There was a phone number posted near the front gate that we called after an hour. A wonderful lady named Anne helped us by looking up our loved ones names and called me back with the location and even helped us out with a map. We were almost going to give up looking so we want to thank Anne for her help!! We had a great experience!

Avondale Cemetery is one of Flint’s oldest cemeteries and has the potential to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries. There are actually two cemeteries - Aventine Cemetery and Avondale Cemetery. This cemetery is owned and operated by Covenant Cemetery Services whilst Aventine Cemetery is owned by Flint.

Here’s a little history for you…The Flint City Cemetery was built in 1842 and by the 1950’s was littered with trash and city developers were eyeballing the valuable real estate. The property was eventually sold and many of the residents of Flint City Cemetery were interred at the corner of Linden and Pasadena, but some remained under where the Hampton Inn was located (now the Holiday Inn). During the building of the Hampton Inn construction 🦺 🚧 workers found bones. Sadly, no one claimed some of the remains and these sad souls were interred in Avondale Cemetery down on Pioneer’s Row. There are two rows that are very close to each other in the back of the cemetery.

At the front of the entrance, there is also a historical marker that was dedicated by the Governor Crapo Camp, Sons of the Union Veterans Civil War, on September 17, 2011. This is also the location of Camp Thompson and where the tenth infantry regiment would muster from 1861 to 1862.

Part of the cemetery is maintained by volunteers and the other part owned by Covenant looks like it is falling down in maintenance and badly needed repairs. This cemetery has the potential to be well-maintained and could be beautiful with its rolling hills, trees, flora and fauna. I believe the owners are not investing the necessary time in upkeep.

It is still well worth a visit to see the rich history of Flint, Michigan and who knows maybe you’ll see a spirit or two in the cemetery 🪦 . It must be haunted 👻 for sure!

Historic and horribly maintained. It's so sad. I'm trying to piece it back together because the police won't do anything about it, of course because it's Flint. I'm watching! I'm cleaning up our cemeteries, and I won't call the cops when I catch vandals. I take care of it myself! Warning to all that attempt to destroy and deface our history, and our loved ones final resting places. Illuminati.......

Avondale is one of Flint's oldest historic cemeteries, and has the potential to be quite beautiful. Sadly, severe vandalism and neglect has been occurring here quite regularly. Every visit that I come to clean my family's gravestones, there are always more stones toppled, destroyed, or defaced. There are graves buried under their waste/debris pile, fallen trees left to rot on top of graves, and areas that have been completely swallowed by vegetation. Covenant Cemetery Services should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for the state of Avondale. They are completely abhorrent and incompetent with managing any cemetery.

Was such a beautiful historic Cementary in the day,to see what has or hasn't been done to keep it up to its glory days is just a shame. Maybe a fundraiser
