The 59er

I stopped by for breakfast, and I’m a sucker for an old school cafe. Groups of truckers and farmers rub elbows with a few young families, and a few old ones. The walls are covered in Stars and Stripes, little motorcycles, and pro sports jerseys. The waitresses are quintessential plains women in their 30s and up, make you feel like you’ve been here a while and they care for you. See how I romanticize this ish? I love it.

Food was good, simple, not amazing but that’s not what you come here for. Coffee hits your cup long before you can finish it, and my waitress was concerned why I hadn’t finished my breakfast. The hash browns must have been three whole russet potato’s and I just couldn’t hit em in

I had dinner here last night, and the food was fantastic! The waitress was very nice and polite. This place is great for truckers like myself, with enough parking for about 15 trucks.

The only downside, there are some drivers who park here regularly and leave their pickup trucks blocking a space during the day. I'm not going to let that affect my review for this place. We need to keep these family run stops open.

When we walked in it brought me right back to when my dad used to bring us out to breakfast on Sunday mornings. What is nostalgic walking in all the tables seated 2-6 to a table everybody was seated and enjoying breakfast. I felt young but I look just like everyone else!

Well, if you're hungry get the 59'er Filler Upper. I've visited probably three times now and it's always been good. Fair prices, fresh coffee, and friendly folks.

It has a nice relaxed atmosphere. The food and the customer service was also excellent.

Not rated the best breakfast in town, but the other place does not have an omelette like this! This is "The Everything" and you can see the ingredients in the picture. Super savory and they will make it any time of the day! The staff is always pleasant here and the menu has a good variety, one of the last Mom and Pop establishments in the area. They are the busiest on mornings and noon, and sometimes there is a wait for a table. But people do come in from many miles away for a rest stop on the way to the cabin.

Stayed for a month during my relocation to Minnesota. The staff is very friendly, food had that homemade deliciousness, and the rooms are clean and affordable.

It's just off the highway and a bit hard to spot. This is a real diner. The food is inexpensive and traditional American. I had a hot beef and peach pie and coffee. The gravy on the hot beef was so good. The peach pie was so much like peach cobbler really a treat. The service was very friendly though they were crazy busy and a bit short of help which can be typical nowadays. I would definitely go back try more dishes and pies.

Their breakfast was just Amazing! I had the south of the border omelet and it was fluffy, seasoned well and just delicious. I also ordered a pancake which came with strawberry and whipped cream as an accompaniment, again delicious.

Food is always good here and staff very friendly. There open past 3:00 when most food places close at that time, very big plus.👍

Best place in Detroit Lakes to eat and visit. Just ask for Crystal.

Was a sweltering Saturday early evening and I was working a split shift in DL. Already tired and in addition hungry I sought food to carry me on til 2am Sunday. This place is welcoming and has a good selection of comfort foods. I picked the cod fillet sandwich and onion rings and found the meal to be filling, sinfully fried and delicious. 10/10 or whatever, will swing by again someday.

Service was. Great it was our 3rd time back there the food was excellent just to much to finish and the price was very reasonable

Excellent food and hometown cafe atmosphere. One of the best kept secrets in Detroit Lakes. Mouth watering ribeye steak dinners, reasonably priced compared to local competition. At this time it is best to call ahead for serving hours...like everywhere else, they occasionally experience staffing issues so daily serving hours can be different than those posted on their website.
