Shady Rest Park

EXCEPTIONAL⭐PARK⭐PLAY⭐EXPLORE

While at Mammoth I was looking for a quick spot to take my pup for a walk. The park is only a couple miles from the Ski resorts, but as soon as we drove in it felt like it's own secluded magical forest.

There roads become soft dirt roads. There is loads of hiking trails and picnic areas. There is also a skateboard/bike park, with ramps small enough for young kids.

There's a baseball field, and volleyball sand area. Everything is sectioned off nicely, but feels open and accessible. I did see several potty bag containers for pets. The signs posted as that all dogs stay on leash.

There is ample parking. We parked and walked into the trees instead of the park. The wind was howling and there was still snow on the floor, which my pup loved.

We walked for quite a ways and saw lots of blue birds and noticed golf spots sprinkled around the forest, as well as Frisbee golf stands, which made us feel very safe and comfortable.

After an hour we walked back to the car.
There's little service in the dense trees, but after a short walk (10 min) in any direction the GPS picks back up. Charge your phone.

This park was a great place to go Sledding! Unless it has a lot of powder like it did after a storm. We couldn't get to it since it was too deep. Next time we'll have snow shoes! We had 2 good days of sledding here!

Beautiful park, with wide-open space to play games that need lots of room.

For me it was the perfect place for lessons about how to cast a rod for fly fishing. No bushes or trees to catch.

Noticed the skateboard park and saw a mother teaching her daughter how to skate.

Lots of trails and evergreens too!

It was amazing with little kids playing in a snow...so much fun

Great park, wonderful disc golf course. Has a good sand volleyball court and a few softball fields. Small skate park and good soccer fields. The town loop goes right to the park and connects to all the other areas of town.

Good place to spend hours! So peaceful!!!

Great sledding and snow play spot for little ones. Parking was easy & we all had fun for free!

If you have a sled this is a goos place to stop by good hills. Has a flat area for the little ones.

We have stayed at New Shady Rest campground for the 2nd year in a row and we LOVE this place! As the name implies, PLENTY of shade and room. We'll definitely be back again next year!!

Great respite for locals to get out of the pumice. Big grass fields, baseball park, soccer, kids playground, open restrooms, water fountain, disc golf, lots and lots of surrounding trails for running, bike path runs through, Nordic skiing in winter, large roofed picnic area for parties. Well maintained. Dogs on leash being inforced. If you need a place to run your dog they can run free on the mesa. Drive down out of Mammoth and before or after the overpass there are places to park and walk along those paths, or past the propane tanks.

Love this wide open park next to trails and sports activities.

The park is so clean and big, there are lots of playgrounds and hiking trails. Beautiful

Nice park in the forest but very close to the city, has grassy areas and picnic tables in the shade, open fields for soccer baseball and volleyball courts. Too bad playground is in the sun.

We stopped at Shady Rest Park after checking out of a Mammoth Lakes camp site. We wanted to get in some park time for our kids before a long drive. We didn't see the park come up when we searched for a playground in Mammoth Lakes, but we saw a sign as we were driving through town. I'm so glad we did! The name was accurate. It was a very hot day, but the playground was shaded nicely. The boys had a great time and got their energy out before we hit the road for our long trip home.

Open space with sports fields, playground and winter recreation trails! Well cared for.

Nice park with 3 baseball fields and a soccer field. Also has a nice picnic area with tables and nice toilets.

Some tips

The toilets by the picnic area are much nicer then the ones by the playground.

Going up behind the park onto the diets roads has some good places to park and sit in the shade, might even be able to camp there if you so desire

Magical place to relax and let kids play!

This is a beautiful place and wonderful to take your dogs off leash and let them run around. The sprinklers went off and my dogs loved it! People are riding their bikes along the trails and will stop to talk to you and make friends which is honestly very common in that area. It's wonderful to be driving through there and seeing all the beautiful trees and everything but I would caution you that you might get a lot of pollen on your car. Easy entrance, easy exit and plenty of parking. They are also paths along the way that you can stop and go hiking and places to drop your trash. I wasn't looking for any restrooms but I imagine they have some because they do have a lot of people going through there.
