For many years, long before it was called the outpost, I've enjoyed outdoor lunch at the bottom of Chair 14. Very relaxing and laid back, it is a great place for a rest and to soak up some sun while taking a break from the skiing. A warm sunny day and low wind is a must as there is no wind break or inside seating. There are ample and clean restrooms available, and like all places in Mammoth free water. They've added a take out bar and the take out food stop keeps changing the name, it is currently called the Melt House, but the food is always good. You can bring your own food and drinks and just relax at the picnic tables. I've never seen it so crowded that you couldn't find somewhere to sit, and most people don't mind sharing their table with you. The have added a fire place in the last couple of years but that is usually crowded. Since it is far away from the Main Lodge, it is rarely crowded and it does feel like you are getting away from it all.

Nice little spot to grab some lunch after s couple runs.
Delicious grilled cheese... I got the pepper jack one and man was it good. They also have a bar and soups.
Couple fire pits to chill at while eating

A great mello place for lunch. Big open deck with 2 converted steel containers with bench seats & gas fire place. If it's cold, windy or snowing maybe not best but if nice sunny day it's great. Food, restrooms & a bar.

Best place on the mountain to eat and just hang out. I'm a little hesitant to write this review bc I don't want anymore people to come back here, it's quite crowded. Plan to wait in a line up to an hour for food at the busiest times. You may or may not find a place to sit right away, so be patient.

Best food on the mountain ...festival vibes ...come out and get yourself some of that great grilled cheese in the sky and say hi. I also work here. Also there is beer and wine as well as the high west bar pouring drinks on the snow cat.

The Outpost wasn't open when I stopped by. I did get to see the upgrades done over the last couple of years. Two fireplaces, the bar is now separate from the food counter. Still the best restrooms on the hill.

Every time I visit mammoth mountain for skiing I try to make it to this cozy corner to have a yummy grilled cheese sandwich. Just a heads up you should be an intermediate skier to visit The Outpost.

Wow this outpost on the backside is newly remodeled to please everyone looking to take a well deserved break from shredding the great Mammoth Mountain terrain. New outdoor Bar, fireplace, cozy seating, cornhole games, couches, restaurant grill etc. Definately a great pitstop with no crowds whilst riding the back side.

Great place to chill with a beer and a bowl of chili or grilled cheese. You are a little exposed to the weather but convenient for backside skiers.

Great spot to stop when you want a quick break from all the blacks, or to just chill out with your kids. Only blue runs around it. The grilled cheese and soup is amazing.

Didn't they the food, but enjoyed the scenery, solitude and escaping the crowds on the "back side of Mammoth Ski Resort. Nice sun deck and less crowds on this section of the mountain. The ski chairs are old school but it adds to the experience. Wished we had spent more time on this area during our stay on the mountain.

Hot soup and sandwiches, cold beer and 👌👌 🎶 on rotation. Outdoors with epic views. Ski in/out only 🏂🏼⛷ (during ski season, not sure about operations & access during rest of the year)

I hadn't been out here in a season or two, but they added a melt restaurant, redid the bar area and added a fireplace. Pretty cool place to escape some of the larger crowds, although it can still get bad on the crazier days

Gourmet grill cheese and good beer. Perfect. I stopped here while riding the bike park, but you can drive up in the summer.
