Shaffer's BBQ & Market

This was some of the best BBQ I have had in a very long time! My bf and I were craving some BBQ on our trip and decided to check this place out and I'm so glad we did. From the meat down to the side salad everything was absolutely delicious. A fun small mom and pop place to sit and have a beer and some fantastic food!

Fantastic place to eat, there is a Louisiana flair happening and it’s real, all my Nola readers…. Don’t expect lidenhimers bread, but the shrimp poboy hits the spot and is a good college effort. The Mac n cheese is fantastic, and the bbq plater is full and delicious!

Good food. Good southern service. Nice craft beer selection.

This is a well run establishment. Thanks again to Jen and the staff for taking a minute to help me out. ALL of the food here is top notch, especially the sides. Classic BBQ joint atmosphere. When I'm in the area I have to stop by for something. My dog absolutely loves the twice smoked bones!

Fantastic food and a regular in my restaurant rotation. Everything is dope here and there's great detail/passion and flavor in everything on the menu; from the coleslaw to the brisket, the ribs, the chicken, the fries, the BAKED BEANS?! You really can't choose wrong.

Staff and ownership are friendly, they have an awesome selection of craft beers. Dine in or carry out with ample dining room inside and gorgeous scenery to take in while stuffing your face in their outside seating areas.

You simply CANNOT pass this place up.

Best BBQ and dessert I had! I lived literally 2 hours away, stumbled upon the place when I was driving to Tennessee 2 years ago. Stopped by for food, been going back since.
The banana bread pudding is amazing, and the chicken legs and brisket are. Every time we drive there is worth the trip.

WoW!! Fantastic food, got the brisket sandwich and some seafood soup and what an amazing soup it was. I'd highly recommend this place. Enjoyed it so much decided to buy a hat.

It was my birthday and I didn't want to cook (and wanted a good burger), so we did an online order for pickup. Often when you order a burger medium at other places, it still comes out overcooked and dry, but at Shaffer's you get what you order. My burger was SO amazing, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The rest of my family was very happy with their dinners too! To top it off, we got a cheesecake from their local homemade baker, which was a perfect ending topped with candles. My husband spoke with the incredibly friendly owner for a bit... a great place for food!

Neat little stop! Stopped in for dessert. Delicious coconut cream pie!!!! Will be back for some bbq!

It was amazing. Crispy and delicious coating on the chicken, soft shell crab and fried oysters. Everything was simply Devine! And sitting outside under the shade to eat while overlooking the gorgeous countryside was the topper. Loved it tons!

Great traditional Virginia Barbecue is all about time and temperature in this family run BBQ. Shaffer’s pit is fired with oak, harvested locally. They specialize in Boston Butts (Pork shoulder), Beef Briskets, St. Louis cut Ribs, and locally produced sausage and chicken.
Their home-made rubs is applied to each piece of meat before being placed inside the pit. Then they let the smoke take over. Indirect heat applied at a consistent rate over several hours enables the smoke to penetrate the meat, producing a tender bite with complex flavors. Three home-made sauces top off the BBQ and are available for purchase in our Market.

Awesome place to check out. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing, had the brisket sandwich and left full with no complaints. The outdoor seating is a great way to enjoy the delicious meal.

For the last 18 months I have been driving up and down Rt 81 stopping at the typical chain for fast food. Many times seeing the different BBQ Dining signs along the way saying, one day I need to stop in one of those. Well yesterday was the day. A split second call lead me to Shaffer's BBQ. It's been awhile since I said OMG out loud when I bit into the Brisket Sandwich. And then again with the Mac & Cheese. A great view of the open fields and Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. The only disappointment is not finding this place sooner. I plan to be back soon! Three Thumbs up!

This BBQ restaurant and market is great! Thry have happy meat items, wine, beer, jelly, goat soap, etc... I ordered the sausage wuth peppers and onion no bread, and 4 piece dark meat fried chicken for my dogs. Both were real good. I also got some happy cow eats for my dogs and some gummy bears to soak in moonshine. 😋 The ladies who helped me were very nice. My lifelong love for BBQ comes from Schaffer’s. If their pulled pork BBQ and cole slaw were my last meal, I’d go happy!

Fantastic beer selection and good options for custom 6 or 4 packs. Crab sandwich was to die for, burgers pretty good too. Brisket was a little tough and dry. The pies sold here are literally to die for, best I've ever had. Other fun products from around the area sold here too, the hot sauces are fantastic.

The pork bbq was amazing as well as the ribs! My kids loved the Mac and cheese too. Great food overall! Staff were kind and checked on us twice! Highly recommend!

Stopped on our way back from a long road trip. Wife had brisket and I got the chopped pork plus a redneck burrito. Wife said the brisket was very flavorful and tender. My sandwich and burrito had both flavor and great taste. Will be back again.

This HOT chicken sandwich is damn near perfect. I wish Shaffer's could make this a permanent menu item. There are not too many places that actually do a noteworthy spicy chicken sandwich! Definitely try this one out!

Delicious! We tried the BBQ for two and it was amazing. The brisket was my favorite, followed by the hushpuppies. My husband got the chili as a side and it was delicious too. We also tried the mac and cheese and redneck egg roll, both of which were very tasty and I would eat again.

The pork was the only part of the dish we didn't love. But it was still good. The atmosphere was friendly, the portions were good and I'd definitely come again!
