I have grown up visiting Mingus Mill. A very much still working grist mill located just outside of Cherokee, NC. The beautiful creek runs down the mountain and into troughs and into the power that is the muscle of this beautiful piece of history. Today, my oldest daughter and I watched 6 moose walk by as we left.

The Mingus Mill display is really nice. The mill building is a short walk from the parking area. The 1886 building has been restored but unfortunately was not open for us to enter on the day we visited. The wooden water chute is interesting to see. There is also a very clean restrooms building at the parking area. A nice stop on a beautiful road.

Scenic landscape and very nice atmosphere around this well preserved and kept water mill. Well worth a half-hour stop along the Smokey Mountains route.

Loved this place. Old grinding mill from 1800s. Cut the water flow from a small creek upper area and made a water trough for water to feed the mill. Great place for picture taken.

There are so many places you have to see. And one of them Mingus Mill. Fresh and clean as a nature!

Peaceful and educational. The mill wasn't open when I visited, but I still got to look around the outside, read the signs describing the mill's operation, and peek inside through a hole in the door. Also, I walked a roughly 5 minute trail up the hill to see how water was originally diverted from the creek to power the mill. Also, you can access a nice, relatively flat and compact walking trail from the parking lot (don't go down to the mill but rather go towards the roundabout loop to find the trail entrance), which runs along the creek. Great experience overall.

Very nice place to stop and enjoy an old mill that desperately needs a proper renovation. You cannot enter the Mill at this time. According to the park ranger when I visited, it is the issue of getting large old growth Chestnut to replace the rotting support beams.

Beautiful area!! Neat little set up of how the mill worked and there was a Ranger sitting there that was very unsociable and never once offered to explain anything our 2 grandsons. Very rude, didn’t even respond when we told him bye & have a nice day!! There was a group before us and he was explain to them so not sure what his issue was. We were going to walk the trail but it was closed due to the firing range being used.

Historic mill. Nice to see how earlier America worked to improve their lives.

At times you can almost feel like you are transported back in time.

This old Mill is absolutely beautiful! During the summer months it is still an active mill and can be toured. During the winter months there is only exterior access and hiking around the premises.

No matter what time of year, It is worth the stop. The walking trail along the mill's water source is peaceful and it gives a good perspective on how the mill is powered.

At the end of this easy flat walk to this historic mill, we found a very informed representative from the park who answered all of our questions. The only thing cooler would have been if we could go inside the beautiful, old wooden mill.

We loved seeing the mill!! During the summer they offer tours to see inside and actually have equipment running. The water runs from the river and you can follow the channels to see some of it.
