Susan was phenomenal in helping me arrange some treats for our vacation stay in an AirBnb in Burnsville. I needed a dessert for a 50th birthday, another dessert for a family luncheon and a gift box of treats as a present. PLUS my son has a severe peanut allergy! We communicated via email and Susan offered to fully clean and sanitize all equipment and make the bakery items first thing in the morning. I was comfortable with this plan and the results were delicious!!! Our favourite was the blueberry custard pie with sugared cranberries. 🤤It was amazing!! The cherry cheesecake, blueberry scones and orange cranberry scones were also delicious. Thank you, Susan! You’re one in a million! ❤

Such a wonderful environment! Outstanding fresh ground coffee from a local roaster and pies that are out of this world. Stop in an get a cup of coffee and slice of pie. Mask required at the time I want in and they have some outdoor seating where mask are not required of course. Also local products like sauerkraut and more. Check out the furnishing and vintage items. At times they have live music too.

Everyone here was so kind and the drinks are delicious! When ordering iced drinks, they realized their fresh brewed coffee was still too hot to use and they offered to sub with this cold brew and even let us take the leftover with us (which was very appreciated for the early morning the next day). Highly recommend if you’re in the area and looking for some good drinks!

Best coffee, best cinnamon rolls, and best scones, both sweet and savory! Today, I tried their cranberry orange scones and they are just mouthwatering good! One of the gems in the mountains!

The concept of food being 'baked with love' is on full display at this wonderful spot. The food isn't only delicious, it's something my family actively craves for the unique quality: the savory scones are by far our favorite, worthy of its own food group. Next up are the cinnamon rolls, heated with icing, and recently we got our first walnut topped caramel rolls and garlic rolls, all amazing. A wide assortment of coffees and teas round off the experience, and the folks who work there are lovely. Susan is an incredible baker and pastry chef, who also does special orders. A must stop in the area, with ample comfortable seating and thrifty finds in the adjacent antique space. We always get extras for the next day, and the next!

Update (Oct 2023) outside flea market in their parking lot the first Saturday of each month, it just started (probably through December and restarts in the spring). Desserts are as tasty as ever.

Fun, eclectic shop for gifts (vintage, pottery, postcards and local items), coffee, desserts and a music hangout.

OK, this is a must stop every time we're in the area. Our primary supplier of our favorite roasts of Notorious Coffee Roasting Company, which they always have on brew. Home made baked goods covering the sweet or savory and steps above Starbucks. Staff and fellow customers are always friendly and conversational. Always seem to leave with more than just a good cup o' joe. We look forward to every repeat visit.

So...
We got lost and ended up at Maples. First the coffee was excellent. Wish I had gotten a sweet treat. But the service was way above par. They gave us more than directions. They called Mount Mitchell, which was closed. Then they gave us alternative places to see. So nice and caring.

Owner Susan is a doll. Maples hometown feel is like you are enjoying a great cup of tea with a dear friend.

Phenomenal latte w/ a spritz of hazelnut, both sweet and savory scones (oh god that savory one was divine), great oatmeal/cranberry and chocolate chip cookies, and terrific brownies. Wouldn’t mind living across the street from this place because I’d make it a daily go-to. Lovely people, too. Kept well in wax bags. 10/10!

We ordered a cake in advance for dinner guests. Susan made even better than she described it when we ordered it.
It was ready on time and tasted delicious. Our guests loved it, and there was extra left for later.
My favorite local bakery!

Dropped in after a nature hike. Delicious scone, delicious iced latte, great relaxed place. Almost all is locally sourced/baked/roasted. Really part of the community. Espresso drinks are made with a single-head piston style machine, so don’t expect Starbucks zip in/zip out. But that’s not what you came here for, is it? You came for the delicious baked goods, excellent coffee or tea, the chance to relax, and to support a great local business.

Maples is a tiny mountain coffee shop in an off-the-beaten track area of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The coffees are decent, if not always as fresh as a high-volume place. But considering the location, and the nearest other local shop is 20 miles away, it's a real oasis. The owner bakes incredible pastries and cakes-- all world class quality and imaginative. I've bought entire cakes from them for celebrations. There are only a handful of tables inside, and a few more outside on a country crossroads that can be a little busy, but it's connected to a large local mountain crafts store that is happy to have you browse with your drink. Several nights a week, they have local music in the gallery that is professionally presented and usually worth hearing. When it's quiet, the local staff is very friendly and will chatty. Finally, they are open pretty late in the evenings, making it at dependable stop. Nearly perfect community place.

Susan, the owner, does a great job! I can't remember any time she has not greeted us with a smile when we arrive. We are weekly visitors when we are in the States. Love the cinnamon rolls with icing and coffee!

We were driving through the area for vacation and stopped here during business hours but they were closed temporarily for some plumbing issue. We were about to drive off when a very kind lady came out asking if we wanted coffee because she just made a pot. We realized that we didn't have any small bills on us but she insisted on giving us a coffee for free. She also came back out with two delicious muffins. We dug up maybe $2.00 in coins from our coin jar but felt weird giving her a handful of change. She took it and said she would donate it! Wow amazing woman and the coffee and muffins were fresh and delicious.

While hosting at Black Mountain Campground, a friend who camps with us during the summer, brought us treats from Maples. Every couple of weeks we would get these delicious surprises, carefully boxed. Everything was delicious, fight over, delicious! Ha!

We are returning to the mountains in a few weeks and can’t wait to treat our host families.

I give this place five stars and I haven't even tried half of what they serve. My mom and I stepped in and even though the owner was trying to close up for the night she welcomed us with open arms, tremendous service, and great conversation. This couldn't be a friendlier more welcoming establishment. There is a boutique feel in the dining area, with items on consignment by local artists. There are tons of baked goods to choose from and from what I could tell, all made in house. In fact while we were there we overheard a gentleman order a pie over the phone and then come and pick it up. There's a lending library in the foyer with DVDs, books and chapbooks by local writers. Although dine in is not available right now there's still a cozy feel to the dining room. The owner told me that when the world is on level ground again she plans to have more art as well as spoken word and musical performances. Simply put, this is the place I've been looking for in Burnsville from my first visit. And as if all that weren't enough, the coffee was out of this world! The bean is from a local roaster and it was scrumptious! I even bought a pound to take home. There's plenty of parking and it's next door to OOAK gallery so you can just cross the parking lot when you've finished checking out the local art.

This cozy coffee shop has the best cinnamon rolls that I've ever had. The coffee is divine, and if you're lucky, you can hear Susan singing while she cooks. It's the best!

You know, I don't eat a lot of sweets...I usually just stop here and get a cup of coffee (which is always good). Someone brought some cookies from a local grocery store bakery to my workplace, and I tried one of them. A few days later, I had one from Maples. The cookie from Maples was *much* more delicious...The dough had a delicious buttery flavor.
