Tone Road is a great place to start an out and back home on the Fingerlakes Trail. Be prepared for some steep uphill for approximately the first mile until reaching Virgil Mountain Road (Dirt, seasonal road) after that the grade is only slightly up hill to the summit of Virgil Mountain. You have to approach the trailhead from the north - the road is actually split in two by a house, so you can't approach from that direction. The actual trailhead itself has space for only a couple of cars, so on a busier hiking day you may need to have a backup location in mind.
