Rhyolite is definitely a 'must see' on your way to Death Valley! Plan for an hour, maybe two. It's all free. The open air museum is beautiful and really creepy! 😳 Then the remains of Rhyolite is really interesting too.

Free for all. Great history.
Close to Beatty and Death Valley.

Lots of fun looking around at the Art, cemetery, and Bank!

I give this place 5 stars for the experience and the old ghost town buildings. You can walk around freely here and explore the area. There were many free roaming donkeys in the area. Rhyolite is a must stop!!

What a ghost town, the best one I have ever visited. Usually there is 1 or 2 small homes in a ghost town but this actually had pretty well-preserved (for a ghost town) buildings. Some of them you can go inside, others are fenced off. The old casino is definitely the most well preserved but it's completely fenced off.

The coolest thing was a small abandoned house near the entrance to the town. It was one you could walk right up to and look inside. It had some old run down furniture in it still and even the cupboards of the kitchen area. Just amazing to think about these pieces of history from over 100 years ago (I think it was like 1904).

Well worth it, and free, with minimal traffic even on a Saturday in April when we visited.

Love coming here, you can free roam and there is a lot of cool information about the town. Definitely worth a look if you’re doing the loop from Death Valley to Vegas.

This is a must stop if you are between Tonopah and Las Vegas or Death Valley. Great photo ops and also an opportunity to visit Rhyolite.

We saw this on our map and decided to take a little side trip to see it. I had no idea the bottle house was here. I have heard of this place, and seen pictures of it, but seeing it in person was very cool. The art garden and the remains of Rhyolite were pretty cool as well. Definitely worth the side trip if you are not in a hurry.

This is a unique stop along the way to Death Valley. Strange sculptures in the middle of a deserted town and a little gift shop to learn about it.
The guy at the gift shop was super nice and there are some souvenirs that you can buy.

While in Vegas, we did a full day trip to Death Valley. Along the
way out to the valley, we stopped at this ghost town. It wasnt too
far out of the way and its not everyday to see a original ghost
town!
Its cool to see the buildings still standing and in decent shape for
how old they are. I was surprised how many other cars where
driving thru besides us- guess its well known!
A few tips:
Expect horrible dusty and bumpy roads- always have a tire
replacement ready when in desert! Bring plenty water / snacks-
there isnt any gas stations in the area for ages so stock up on gas
as well. There are signs warning about rattle snakes so we didnt
climb or go in any buildings because thats where they hide! Enjoy
the scenery without risking your health!
My favorite spot was inside the tiny old wooden train- the colors
were mind blowing beautiful! So much history

Awesome desert art exhibit right next to Rhyolite on your wat to Beaty from Death Valley!

There is an information shack close to where you park about the area but I was more focused on exploring and taking pictures so I didn't stop in.

The art is very cool and much of it has info on it as to what it depicts be it quite worn in areas, and may be hard to read for some.

Definitely recommend!

Today the little museum building was open: a first for us despite many, many visits. It's worth it as you learn a bit more about the initial artist and the foundation. Today we saw a new piece, a set of square arches ( oxymore?) I didn't find them interesting from a distance, but getting closer the perspective becomes very interesting.

We visited Rhyolite before entering Death Valley National Park. If you have some 20-30 minutes of spare time, I recommend to take a ride on the dirt but easy road that passes through the abandoned mining town. Right at the entrance, there are several ghost statues representing Da Vinci's Last Supper, a bike rider and a painter.

Fascinating collection of modern art next door to a "ghost town." Very eclectic but that is definitely part of its charm.

It is a must stop if driving by. The desert art is strange and cool. No ghosts were seen as I was there. Just an abandoned town and dreams of making it rich gone bust.

This is a very good half day trip. 2 hr drive out of vegas right pass Beatty, NV. from the sculptures to the abandoned town walking distance up the road. As a bonus, we saw about 100 donkeys just roaming in the town of Beatty. So that was pretty cool to see.
