My children have attended Chimney Lakes for 2 years now and we actually picked the specific community based on it being a highly rated school for the area of the city we wanted to live in. There are certainly some great things about the school but also quite a few things we don't like. For the good, our children's teachers seem to genuinely care about my kids and, in return, my kids have liked their teachers. The school is fairly well taken care of and they seem to have good library and computer resources for the children. The playgrounds are large and well maintained.

Unfortunately, there are also some things which are very aggravating here. Communication from the school and teachers is often very poor and we often have little or no information about when our children have tests or what subjects they are currently studying. Since they don't allow the children to bring home most of their textbooks, we often have no idea what to help our child with or how to help them. When requesting conferences with teachers we are basically only ever given the option of early morning meetings which are nearly impossible for a working parent. I also fail to understand why 4th graders come home with 2 hours of homework every evening when I expect that they should be learning the majority of this information while at school. My children also need time to be children.

The other major gripe I have is the poor organization around release time including traffic buildup and policies on releasing kids. There seems to be little or no logic to many of the policies used here and release time ends up being a chaotic mess.

Overall I feel that the school is average for the area but certainly don't feel that the high ratings are justified based on our experience. Although our children have consistently performed well while attending here, it is with hours and hours of at-home time spent (which I don't mind doing except that it makes me wonder what they are actually learning at school).

This school is horrible. My daughter was in 3rd grade in Mrs. Griffin class in the beginning of 2014 and due to the teacher never being in the class , my daughter was not only failing but lost interest in learning over all. My child was a straight A's student and even enrolled in gifted. It is so sad to know that there are teachers that truly don't care and schools that due absolutely nothing about it. Mrs. Griffin said she was constantly being asked to leave her class to assist the Principal with class development programs. Not only was my child failing but so were all the other children in the same class. I wrote a letter to speak with the principal and never received a response.

It makes no logical sense how a teacher is asked to help with class development programs if her class is failing. My daughter came home everyday discouraged due to multiple substitutes and no of them cared to teach her anything, they just past out the daily assignments. As a working parent, there is so little time I can spend with her. This is my first review and I thought about it many times over because as a business professional I understand how damaging a bad review can be. As a mother , I would not wish what happened to my daughter to happen to any other child. It took me to move from my home to change schools, private tutor and late nights to get her all caught up and interested in learning again. Children today are tomorrows future, schools should know this and due their best to make a better tomorrow.
