The General Stanton Inn

My wife and I elected a 'dine and stay' package to celebrate New Year's Eve at the General Stanton Inn, which we enjoyed immensely.

The owners did a great job of retaining the Inn's incredible historic charm, while remodeling the rooms and kitchen/bar.
Our room was impeccable, the owner and staff could not be more accommodating, and our dinner was awesome in a relaxed atmosphere. Bonus - live music from the Van Pelt duo was a lot of fun. We may have found our new NYE tradition.

We live about 30 minutes from the Inn, and we're planning to grab dinner at the restaurant again soon.

Our dinner last night at the historic General Stanton Inn was absolutely wonderful! We sat in the classic and very charming New England style tavern area over by the beautiful stone fireplace! The staff and the owner are super friendly and welcoming! We were a party of 4 and everyone loved their meal! Two of us ordered the Braised Short Ribs served with mashed potatoes and broccolini. They were fantastic- right up there as the best short ribs I have ever had! This is one of my favorite dishes so I have ordered them at a lot of different restaurants! The two other people we were with ordered the Bolognese and the Stanton Sirloin . Both said their meals were delicious!
For dessert, two of us ordered the Chocolate Chip Skillet dessert which was SO GOOD and two people had the Salted Caramel Gelato! As an added bonus before we left, Kevin, the restaurant manager, kindly gave us a tour of the other historic dining rooms on site and a little bit of history on each room and some of the visitors that stayed and dined here, from George Washington to Al Capone.
I highly recommend this place! I think the friendly staff, delicious food, and great overall vibe make it a must-visit spot if you have not yet been to the General Stanton Inn!

We recently celebrated our wedding at the General Stanton Inn, and it was truly memorable. The rooms were impeccably clean, reflecting a delightful New England charm that our family adored.

For our rehearsal dinner, we chose the inn's restaurant and were impressed. Among the delectable dishes, the pork chop with mashed potatoes and carrots stood out as the unanimous favorite.

A special thanks to Jackie and David, the inn's owners, who were incredibly kind and attentive throughout our planning. If you're considering the General Stanton Inn for any event, we highly recommend it for its warmth and hospitality.

For the second year our neighbors held our Christmas Party/Dinner at the General Stanton. Now for the second year you provided us a wonderful get together. There were 10 of us which was perfect for the Roosevelt Room. Our own room with great service and the food was outstanding. Look forward to our 3rd party next December.

We haven’t stayed in the rooms yet so we cannot comment on how good the experience will be.

Tonight a good friend and I went to the general Stanton restaurant to try the new chef’s work. The entire experience was great. The restaurant is beautiful. The ambiance is quaint and we sat under some sound baffling which is a touch I wish more restaurants would add to their historic spaces.

We started the meal with the fried calamari appetizer paired with a bottle of camelopard Sauvignon blanc. It was a fun selection for a casual night out and suggested to us by the server. We enjoyed the pairing. The calamari was crispy and tender with a nice touch of marinara and peppers.

For entrees I ordered the pan roasted statler chicken breast dinner and continued with the Sauvignon blanc. The chicken was perfectly cooked: tender and juicy with a nice exterior crisp. I love goat cheese so the filling was phenomenal. The sides were also perfectly prepared, squash and fingerling potatoes. The veloute was light and flavorful. My friend ordered the braised short ribs paired with an old fashioned. I tried this meal as well and think it was a comforting classic meal with decadent flavor. The braised short ribs were fork tender and so moist on a bed of delicious broccolini and mashed potatoes with au jus. You just can’t go wrong with this dinner.

For dessert we chose to stay for the bar event music bingo which was fun and not so loud that we couldn’t enjoy our quiet conversation at our table. We had the skillet chocolate chip cookie with vanilla gelato. A classic pair. This is a properly made skillet cookie with fresh dough in a real skillet. I have ordered this at a couple other restaurants in the state and I am usually disappointed with the texture of the cookie. The new chef here does it right.

We will definitely be back for several more nights at the general stanton inn restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay at this well-appointed inn. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They were eager to make the stay perfect. The inn is a beautiful building that is kept in excellent shape. They have done a great job of highlighting the historic past while also keeping the amenities modern, such as the recently renovated bathroom in our room. We are looking forward to our next stay at the General Stanton inn and visit to lovely Charlestown!

Everything was wonderful. Went for a conference, and they served about 100 people efficiently with great food and presentation.

The staff and owners were wonderful, friendly, and accommodating. We were able to tour the inn and get a quick presentation of the history of the inn. We even got to look at the in progress renovations of the rooms. Gorgeous.

This is a great restaurant. The food is tremendous. The fried Brussels are incredibly tasty and the pork chop was great. We also had the scallop special which was very well prepared. The service was friendly and prompt. The decor is perfect- nice historical pieces. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. We could tell it was definitely a local favorite. The experience was perfect. We will definitely come again.

My 6 friends went because the website said it was newly renovated, looked up menu, decided, to try it.. when we was seated, the Menu was different, the . website was not updated. The waitress had no idea, the manager came over to see what the problem was, we explained, we decided to give it a try, it was a little pricey compare to the other menu, BUT, we ordered drinks, the food was excellent, the service was great, the whole Experience turned out great, we will go again , we loved the Food, a misinterpreted night Turned out wonder,🌟

You won’t be disappointed with the re-opened General Stanton’s. We’ve been many times for dinner and brunch under the new ownership and it just keeps getting better. The atmosphere is upscale with all new renovations. The food is delicious with great specials that change all the time. The staff is welcoming and provide great service. I highly recommend it.

Our dining experience surpassed our expectations. The appetizer, entrees and desserts were top notch and the staff were all very professional. The new owners should be congratulated for providing south county with such a gourmet dining experience!

We had an event here - a family reunion and celebration of life. Jackie was super easy to work with, the event ran smoothly and the food was excellent. Couldn't have asked for more!

Had dinner with a group. The chef is to be commended. The plating and food were the most artful. My swordfish perfect...outstanding.

I have had multiple dinners here with family and every time it is wonderful. The food and drinks are delicious and the staff is so attentive. Definitely a must try in Rhode Island!

The owner Ms Falcone was an amazing host!she is a rare strong breed of woman that you don't find these days. She had a kind heart under the rough exterior, she could have stories for hrs. The room normal wouldn't be something I would normally enjoy. It was small and extremely outdated. But it was cozy and beautiful at the same time. It gave the wife and I the time we needed for a long time! And it had a cool flea market right in the back yard where the wife found some things that she liked which made the holiday a great start. Didn't want leave honestly

Went to restaurant it was close walked out back to a. Flee market i say it all family selling hand made basket stones of all kinds to beautiful jewelry all handmade and they all like family and cheap very cheap they all said helping out on sundays see u there any thing u need they will help u find don't miss out Grandmother to grandkids making a 💲 helping grandma and pa bead.i do bead work I got the earrings to do bead work Lakota Style . 10cents I paid l

We stayed August 3 and 4 2018. JANICE was very accommodating, kind and helpful. The room was clean and adequately appointed. My husband left his very important c pap machine and Janice called twice to make sure wr knew! Then when i said send it and charge it to our card she said I'll overnight it and you can send me a check! What heartwarming trust! She is the perfect owner/innkeeper! We recommend the inn heartily!!! Thank you Janice Falcond

The new tavern is completely restored and looks beautiful. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the drinks are classic with the General’s twist!

Stumbled across this gem and I absolutely adored this place the owner Janice is the sweetest kindest lil old lady I have ever met she took me and my boyfriend on a tour of the whole property(after asking if I could take some updated pics for her) and sat with us for almost an hour telling us different stories about her time there over the years and other local businesses to take note of!! she just regained ownership after giving It up yrs ago... I'm not exactly sure when but is in the process of fixing it all back up, it is absolutely adorable I fell in love and will definitely be back any time I'm in the area!

Janice is the nicest old lady in the northeast. We had a reservation w late check in at the Windswept inn and when we got there no one was there or answering calls. We couldn't be happier about their terrible service since it led to us finding this little gem. The place has been operating since the 1600s and is nicer, less expensive, and comes w Janice. She saved us, woke up at 1AM and drove down the rd to get us setup w a room. Thank you, Janice.
