Alto Lake and Recreation Area

Easy trail to walk and a great view of the sunset! Alto Lake is very close to us and we love that we can get here easily. The trail is nice and loop around the lake is popular w joggers. We’ve gone around sunset several times and the view is always amazing! We love that you can see so much wildlife along the trail too; we’ve seen so many birds, deer, elk and even our first bear! Great place to get in a nice walk or to relax and fish or take a picnic or just sit w nature.

This is a nice clean facility great for fishing! It's a small lake but you can almost fish 100% of the banks. It even has a pier.

Beautiful place for a walk around the lake. An additional longer trail leads a mile back. Quite a few deer and elk can be seen usually.

Beautiful place but way too many people catching fish. If you get there early on a cold morning, you can find the tranquility of the place well worth. Also, it’s exquisite when its frozen.

Not much to say about the lake. It's a small fishing lake. Not really for swimming or boating.

But the hike path is nice.
Fairly flat terrain with the exception of the climb up & down from the lake. Easy to follow hiking path. There is a small waterfall & pool to explore near the end of the loop. The only bathroom is at the parking lot. There are no trashcans along the trail...pack it out! There are numerous benches along the trail to rest & listen to birds.

Nice little lake to fish and small trail around. Nice for kids and jogging with a dog.

Pretty lake and trail down into Eagle Creek. Saw wild horses along the trails, too. Some really good rock formations to check out as well.

Another outstanding lake at Ruidoso NM. Perfect place for fishing, hiking. This lake is just besides the main road or Ruidoso. Though Parking lot is limited, nice place to hang out.

great place to go hike to the end of the lake and back, about 2 miles .

Always a great time to relax at Alto. Walk the trails with the dogs, catch some fish with the kids. Must see while in Ruidoso.

Gorgeous views with a nice walking trail both around the water and another one in the back that’s a little bit longer. If you’re into fishing, make sure to bring your fishing pole and if you forget your bait, they have a bait trailer for your convenience.

Great place and view maybe it could be a good idea to add some food offers or some boat in the lake

Loved it! The lap around the lake is nice but the longer hike with surprise mini waterfall was best.

Oh man. A wonderful place. Amazing trail and kept smelling the good insense of pine. Can't found anything wrong with this place. It was just great.

Really nice place if you explore enough you can find some really nice spots!!

Beautiful area. Nice level trail all around the lake. Lots of people were fishing.
