Bruneau Community Church

I attended the 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. church service today for the first time. I was not there for the adult Bible study that happens from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and they have a midweek Bible study at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays. This is a smaller church that seats about 150 people. They have pews that are comfortable. It is an older congregation for the most part but also has a couple younger families. Everyone seems to be kind, caring and welcoming. They have no mask requirements and are having a potluck next week.

The service starts with a prayer request time that leads into the opening prayer. This time seems to vary depending on the amount of requests and praise reports. Service continues with praise and worship led by a single vocalist and accompanied by an organ. These 3 or 4 songs are pulled out of a traditional hymnal and then another 3 or 4 songs that are a little more recent that are pulled from a different book.

The pastor has been there for 20 years and is kind and gentle, allowing everybody to speak. As a matter of fact, I noticed that he sped up his sermon to still allow everybody to leave at 11. However, I need to say that there was a lot packed into the sped up sermon. He pulled 10 verses from Isaiah and followed it with their current exploration of Nehemiah. He ended the sermon with a challenge for us to personally dig into the scripture to see what God has for us. He closed the service with a song and then stood at the back of the church to greet everyone as they left.

It's not my style of worship service but I will be coming back to visit because I know that God is there with his people and will speak to anyone listening. Who knows, God may have that as my new home church. I'll see where he leads :-)
