This property is a large so be prepared to walk. Have comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and weather appropriate clothes. Although a lot of the land is covered with trees it can still get quite hot on a warm day. Oh, bug spray would definitely come in handy lol. The grounds are well taken care of and the rescued animals seem to be well taken care of. It definitely felt more like a habitat then a zoo or something less animal friendly. It was definitely relaxing walking around the property and checking out the animals. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and pleasant. Some of the animals of course were hiding out in their habitants because that's their business lol. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area and I would recommend you visited if you like to learn a little history about the area and see some animals that are being rehabilitated or that have been rescued and cannot be released to the wild.

IMPORTANT: The parking lot for day use is near the end of River Rd. It is not indicated on the map, but it is easy to find. From there it is an easy walk to the pond or river. The main entrance gate is always shut except for special events, but that doesn't mean you can't visit the park.

Better check the weather before you take off on this one. We decided to go on a light rain day and the water was up. Boy it caught me off guard... By the time I got my bearing I had a great time yaking and a fishing. Safe yakin and most of all have fun.

DNR Kids Fishing event was a great success. Great turnout with over 50 kids & parents. Catching Catfish with shrimp was the favorite. Several 5-7 pounders caught.

Awesome class 1, 2, & 3 rapids on this stretch of the Chattahoochee. Very secluded with a beautiful little waterfall and picnic tables for land lovers wanting to picnic

This is the special place I grew up and it's incredible to see it transform into a public place for all to enjoy its beauty. I hope all who visit treat it and enjoy it as I have over the years.
