Free!
As a life long resident I have grown up in Pioneers Park.
The space is beautiful and has endless activities available including:
Natural Prairies/plants, and Heritage school - a true Nebraska child/ public school right of passage.
Also Walking trails, Restrooms (during warm months), fresh air, playgrounds, grilling areas, encounter/discovery center, picnic tables, ponds (no swimming) and animals.
Just to name a few.
Keep an eye on the Pinewood Bowl, great outdoor events with an occasional big name.
Support local artists/performance.

***
Don't forget to say "hi" (DO NOT DISTURB/FEED) the resident Buffalo heard in the back turn around.
Truly magnificent.

A classic Lincoln park. Pioneers Park has activities for anyone. There are trails for horse riding, a playground, a sledding hill, opportunities to see wildlife, hiking and biking trails, and nature centers to learn about Nebraska ecosystems. Although the park is widely visited, it's large enough that it never feels crowded.

Fantastic nature preserve that I’ve been going to since I was a child. Recently went back after being away for almost a decade. Still gorgeous, still clean, still heaven on earth. My husband who doesn’t usually enjoy “rough nature” saw how well they kept the lands and fell in love as well. It was a dream to bring my son back here to have him see the one room school house I went to school in. So sweet.

Not a whole lot here to see outdoors other than some free range bison and turkey vultures. The nature center was super cool. The boys got to see a few snakes up close. And all the animals that inhabit that area.

A wonderful place to take a hike. Lots of room to wander. The nature center has some great trails. Be wary of ticks as they like to hitch a ride to unwary travelers.

Highly recommended.

The forest is a magical world where every rough leaf and every sleepy ray creates a unique dance of nature. It is a place where the heart finds peace and the soul calms down from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a walk here among the tall trees, listening to their quiet conversation, and feel the peace spreading with every breath of wind. 🌲🍃

We enjoyed walking around. We liked the old buildings, bison, other animals, nature centers, and old school house.

Love going to the Nature Center. Especially with kids. It is such a great place to show and help explain the Nebraskan wildlife and creatures we have here. It allows them to explore and there are fun trails to walk and let them get energy out while they learn lol.

Very nice center. It is small, but lots of great information to engage with. The grounds are great with excellent trails and animals to spot too. Free is great too! There are many places to give a donation if you are able.

I love Pioneer Park Nature Center!
Not only do they have bison, but there are paths through either forest or prairie indigenous wildflowers. My granddaughter loves it. My wife and I love it.
While walking around a pond last week, we said, all those sticks cannot ALL be the heads of bullfrogs! They were, and we have a great splashing and hopping about video for our three-year-old grandchild.
She went last time and saw all the bison. I have to take her back soon, for the frogs.
The sunflowers, milkweed seed pods and turtles were also a big hit. It’s such a wonderful asset, saving a beautiful hunk of wildflowers is a great gift to the next generation of hikers and fans of the outdoor life!

A big park with a lot to do. The most well known attraction is the Bison, and if they are close to the fence, the experience is fantastic, but like most herd animals they like to roam and are not often near the fences. Near the bison is a nature preserve area with trails, a suspension bridge, several lakes, and more trails. The trails are a great place for casual exercise and to reconnect with nature. (Take your time and smell the flowers, see the frogs, walk with butterflies, and pet the cattails.) There are large open areas for group games, and fairly nice playground equipment for kids. Pack a lunch and take the kids; it's a great park. (Also, I was very impressed by how clean the park is. Great job to all who work there.)

I love going to pioneers park because when I’m there I like to catch turtles, and feed animals like ducks, geese, other birds, turtles, and fish and I like to catch frogs there as well! It’s also a great place to interact with family members and have picnics and if your a nature person who likes to photograph flora and fauna you should definitely go there someday! :)

Loved every bit of this little treasure on the outskirts of Lincoln while visiting Nebraska. Being a country girl I felt right at home visiting this place. I was highly impressed by the care taken of the beautiful Raptors they had and the trails along the way were very peaceful. It was enjoyable to watch the buffalo, elk, and the deer they had as well in spacious, lush, enclosures.

Nebraska has done a great job preserving their state’s history and culture. Pioneers Park Nature Center is a shining example of this. You can tell that the people here care about the work they do and the preservation of the state’s nature and history. Pleasant place to take a walk, learn about prairie history and lifestyle, and see what makes Nebraska a place worth visiting. It’s not just a fly over state!
