This place is amazing. The lady who runs the store was so friendly and has put a lot of time and work into making this place like an old stay grocery store. Stop by and pick up some items to have a picnic in town or go in and grab items to take home and make dinner. There is something for everyone here. This is a place we will be back to visit. What a great experience.

What is there not to LOVE about Columbia Mercantile 1855! It's a wonderful local store (located in Columbia State Historical Park) that has a wide range of everything...including a wonderful owner! The store carries fresh fruit & vegetables, various meat, breads, pasta, spices, flowers, dairy and non-dairy options, alcohol, gluten free, vegan, art and collectibles...they even carry duct tape and fresh baked pies! You'd think the prices would be astronomical...they're NOT! Don't be put off by the wonderful decor, thinking you'll be paying for it, the prices are VERY competitive AND the service comes with a smile! Lastly, they take all methods of payment and will even carry your groceries to your car :o)

The sweetest shop with an amazing selection of goods that you would have found in the Wild West (pickles in a barrel and sarsaparilla) to current offerings of local deli snacks perfect for a picnic. Stop by this gem if you have a chance! It’s more than a diamond in the rough, Eureka!

Sweet store with a range of products from candies to fine art. An old fashioned grocery with useful products and frivolous things. I had a lot of fun here and found terrific birthday gifts. Worth a visit!

We’re in town with family for Thanksgiving and ended up at St Charles Saloon for dinner and drinks. We knew we had to hit a grocery store on the way home and popped into the small market across the street because I noticed the perfect 5-star review and had to check out the place for myself because 5 stars is incredibly rare. THEY DESERVE IT! I won’t go on and list everything that has probably already been said except to say that they absolutely nailed it on all fronts….selection, prices, customer service, ambiance, cute canine mascot, etc etc. sooo glad we went!

Wonderful and unique store in the heart of Historic Columbia. The owner was such a delight to talk to, and as a local Colombian she knows the community and the history well. The store offers groceries, specialty foods and cold drinks perfect for locals and visitors alike. The shop boasts an original historic storefront and displays many items from the time period. Prices were competitive with a nice selection of snack items, wines, sodas and sarsaparilla, and foods perfect to share with friends or give as gifts. This local business is worth visiting the next time you are in Historia Columbia.

The owner of the shop was very informative of the history in the area! Definitely stop by to get some goods or a cold drink and have a chat with the owner! They had a little of everything, gardening gloves, socks, fresh fruit, candy and sweets, soaps, sodas and cold drinks, pasta, cards. Great place to stop!

I've rarely been welcomed into a grocery store in such a pleasant way. Thank you, Thérèse!

Impressive mini grocery store. The store carries premium cooking a d baking supplies. I especially liked the European products and fairly priced. Could not get those in a Safeway. Nice owner too dressed in a period dress. She loves her town!

This shop is beautifully located in Columbia State Park and is really a top quality establishment. Everything sourced is unique and not just something that you would find at a gas station or basic grocery store. A lot of healthy options and interesting snacks too! A bonus is that the store owner is such a kind lady who welcomed me and my family in and was vocal about any questions/any needs we may have. You can tell that the shop has been designed with love and attention to detail and I can't wait to visit it again next time I am in town!

Lovely! Teresa knows so much history about this wonderful place. Would recommend to stop in, get an ice cold Sasparilla and a taste pastry and snack.

Absolute gem in this town. Rare gourmet findings for every taste, also for vegans. Teresa is super nice and helpful. To top it off: reasonably priced.
Hot tip: get the Marionberry pie - it beats everything we had before (and we love pies!).

My family and I were blown away by the experience at this store. The owner, Teresa, greeted us in period clothing and explained how her store embodied the internationalism of Columbia when it was California’s second largest city.

The food itself was great, we had amazing tomatoes, cheese, and a sourdough. But, Teresa‘s knowledge and passion made this one of our most memorable stops during our California vacation.

Wow! What a great find!
We have a cabin in Arnold, so not too far away.
My husband and I decided to enjoy a drive to Columbia for the afternoon.
Stumbled upon this store...and what a great find!
Spoke in depth with the owner, which I give 10+ stars too, as she took the time (while still interacting with anyone that came in) to give us the history of the building/store, why she opened/re-openers, etc.
She has done such a great job in choosing what she carry's. Also extended that if she doesn't have it, she can likely get it, which is great to hear.
I could go on and on, as it made my weekend; however, I encourage locals, tourists and everyone in between to stop in and support this amazing local business.
I would also like to comment on being LGBTQ, how welcomed and safe I felt

It was such a delight to find that someone was making the effort to restore the feeling and the practicality of a true general store serving the local residents and to also have wonderful surprises for the visitor. From fresh produce to imported delicacies like English clotted cream, all at reasonable prices. A must visit if you are anywhere near central California gold country.

I love this little store. We stopped by to see what they had inside and was amazed by the amount of unique items and very fresh food choices. They will even order in requested items. If you are in the Columbia area this store is a must stop. The lady working was super sweet.

Amazing selection of special, unique things, and rare finds. Local wines, fine art, and everything you need to make a great dinner. Theresa, the owner, is a gem. So welcoming, happy to share some history of the most charming mining town in CA. I had the Milliare Zin, La Fermiere rose yogurt, and 1849 pasta sauce. Highly recommend!

This store is absolutely lovely & stocked with a surprisingly large variety of high quality (but fairly priced) groceries & wonderful sundries. The owner is warm & kindly took the time to share her knowledge of Columbia's history with us. It's worth stopping in just for a loaf of the fresh baked sourdough bread, easily the best I've had.
