Absolutely fantastic experience! My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday afternoon and were so incredibly excited to find this place. Despite us needing to switch our reservation time, the staff was super accommodating. The ladies working the tasting room were very friendly and attentive, educating us on each wine and how the winery came to be. My boyfriend and I each had a flight and enjoyed every single wine we tasted, which is rare. Very rare. The care and hard work they put into their wines is evidenced by the spectacular quality. We ended up buying some bottles to take with us and I’m likely to join the wine club next! 10/10 would definitely recommend and will be bringing all my visitors!

What an amazing experience today! We had the 2 for 1 wine tasting deal and it was well worth it. Our lovely hostess knew everything about the vast number of wines and grapes that are cultivated on the land. We loved the Muscat, Roussanne were the bottles we purchased. The lovely patio with a stunning vista over the vines. We stayed an hour and a half and loved every minute . Thank you so much .

Excellent experience at Chris James Cellars. This is a hidden gem in the hills around Carlton. The wines are excellent. Our tasting room hostess was fantastic & a lot of fun. A special bonus was to get to talk with the better half of the husband and wife team that own the place. What a great story. We ended up taking the Zin & the Dolcetto home with us. Highly recommended.

Love all they are doing at the Estate to make it more available and comfortable. The wines are great. I am happy to be a member and bring my friends every time I visit. Great service, courteous and helpful.

We found Chris James wines to be deliciously complex and well crafted, no doubt a tribute to their passion and commitment. If you are on a quest to seek out new wine adventures, then Chris James Cellars will definitely delight! The estate tasting room/patio is surrounded by the vineyard and offers spectacular views; we had such an enjoyable afternoon and recommend you take the beautiful drive out there to experience it for yourself! (This is a vintner to watch!).

Stunning location at the stop of a hill overlooking the valley. A member of Harvest Hosts so we were able to park our RV in the vines overnight. Really pleasant owner and staff. Wine were nice - several nice whites on the sweet side which aren’t what is usually drink. Gorgeous deck and seating areas to relax and enjoy the view and the wine.

What a marvellous afternoon! Was greeted by the very friendly and knowledgeable Drew on arrival. We were walk-ins - Not a Problem, and the wine tasting began. We were out in the sunshine on the patio with a beautiful view, had a very nice meat and cheese platter, and walked away with several bottles of the Mourvèdre. Would have joined the Wine Club but we are here in Oregon from Australia. Go for the wine and enjoy the exceptional service and the views from the patio! Thanks, Drew.

I just have to say Drew made our experience. He was so knowledgeable about the wines, he pushed us out of our comfort zones and gave us a phenomenal tasting! We met Drew at the Sip Wine and Food Classic in McMinnville. He encouraged us to come out to the estate for the full selection they provided.

We had a great time and we enjoyed the wine too! As a notorious white wine fanatic I really enjoyed the Estate Pinot Noir.

Lovely winery off the beaten path. Excellent wine and gorgeous views. Just outside of Carlton.

We visited the winery to do a session with this amazing family and absolutely love the grounds and tasting room. On top of that the wine tastes amazing. We got a Pinot Noir 2018 and it is complex and smooth with a lingering flavor that makes you want more. I would highly recommend a visit to the winery or tasting rooms to get some of this award winning wineries vintages.

Wanted to update this review...I've been to the new location twice now and it's really nice. Great location in with lots of outdoor seating. The people who work there are very down to earth and focus on you. That's nice! I bought a Petit Verdot, Lagrien, Barbera and some Dolcetto bubbles.

Lovely couple and great wines located out in Carlton. They made me feel glad I came. I stopped in for a tasting and left with a mixed case of wines. They have a very large selection of wines from all over. As the valley is full of pinot and chardonnay (love them) it is nice to have other varietals. I heard they are opening up a new tasting room in McMinnville.
in December and I will definitely stop in.

Owners are friendly and have a great variety of wines to taste. Great view. Off the beaten track so keep your eye out for signs. Strongly suggest appointment with covid thing as well as smaller area to taste. Great whites and sparkling for price point. To me some of the best whites around.

Chris James Cellars creates such a wide variety of wines that it would be almost impossible not to find one that will end up being on your top 10 wine list. The owners, Chris and Beth are an amazing couple with broad and very interesting backgrounds which bring a diverse creativity to their wine making. With more than 474 vineyards in Yamhill County you have to produce exceptional wines if you want to stand out from the crowd, and we feel they have clearly accomplished that task. Over the years we have discovered that the bulk of our wine cellar is being continueally restocked with Chris James wines, both reds and whites simply because they are amazing wines. If you’re into reds and haven’t tried their Malbec…you should. Oh, if you like whites you really need to try their Pinot Noir Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc….. save room in the car for a couple of cases.

Chris James Cellars is an unexpected gem of a winery just outside Carlton, Oregon. This is Pinot Noir country, and they produce delicious Pinot Noir. However, it's a happy surprise to discover the variety of other wines they make, and a delight to taste the care and quality throughout. The winery's tasting room is off the beaten path and has a welcome vibe and gorgeous view. They also just opened a tasting room in McMinnville. You can tell when someone's heart is in their work, and this is one of those places.

The staff (and owners) are the most gracious hosts you could hope to have. Each experience has been not just enlightening, but exciting. I have learned, laughed, and relaxed here. Even tasting here, with masks, in December, has been a highlight of our day. Please don't hesitate to call ahead and make a reservation, you will not regret it.

Found this wonderful gem of a business on Harvest hosts. They shared some of their lovely wines with us, and we got to stay in an absolutely idyllic piece of countryside. Highly recommended!
