Couldn’t have picked a better place! My husband stayed here after completing our Pittsburgh to DC bike trip. The location is directly on the towpath! And the history of the building is directly linked to the towpath; they have lots of cool photos and info about it on the walls. We picked room Lock 6, since it has a second floor porch where we could safely keep our bikes. (Still locked them though for extra safety). And they even have cameras for additional safety. The rooms are very nicely updated. I also appreciated the quiet hours and it seemed everyone respected them. There was minimal noise from the bustling Georgetown businesses. I really loved the self service coffee in the lower level kitchen. It was nice to make a cup of coffee, sit on the porch and look at the canal before getting our day started. We will definitely be staying here again if/when we return.

I did a surprise decorated room here for my girlfriend and with help from staff accommodation I was able to make her birthday night special. The room was very nice and clean with a beautiful view of the water, if you’re looking for somewhere romantic this is the place. I would definitely come to stay again.

Reasons to love this place:
Clean, well-maintained, and modernly appointed rooms with comfortable beds. Slept like a baby.
Amazing location, both historically and in terms of its proximity to the heart of Georgetown. Here’s something other reviews are missing: If you’re interested in the history of the area, this place is beyond comparison! It is right next to the canal itself, and within a few yards of an operational canal boat. The building itself is also historic. The proprietors recognize this and have, for example, dubbed the rooms “locks” instead of rooms, and provide historical context through framed guides in the hallways. My wife and I loved this, because this was our last stop after biking the GAP Trail and C&O Canal Towpath all the way from Pittsburgh.
No-fuss virtual check-in.
Great customer service via text or phone call, should you need it.

This place is a gem. Highly recommended!

Georgetown House is a neat boutique hotel. It's in a perfect location in Georgetown (near intersection of M and Wisconsin) but tucked back in a quiet spot over the canal. Check in kiosk was easy with clear instructions. Room was clean and comfortable. Recommended

This is a second time we are staying in this hotel. I highly recommend it. If you want to live in the heart of historical center of Washington capital city, stay here. Wonderful morning walk on waterfront, which is three minutes away from the hotel, will enrich you with energy of this amazing city, smell of aromatic coffee and fresh pastry from many cafes nearby. The hotel rooms are very clean, smell nice, comfortable and well organized. The room is not big, but everything necessary and lightly more is there... Many pleasant and useful little things as umbrella, water bottle))) On public balconies they have tables and chairs with the view to the ancient bridge. There is a general use kitchen with coffee, tea, nice table wear and all necessities. I thank all personnel for creating caring, distinctive atmosphere, client orientation and affordable prices. Wish you success and prosperity.

My husband and I stayed at the Georgetown House Boutique Inn in April 2021. The location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of the historic district. The rooms are small but clean, comfortable and cute. I will
stay there again when I am in the city.
The staff I worked with was very accommodating and helpful. She made everything easy when I was reserving rooms for other family members. Thank you for your help!

5 Star Greatness!!

Hubby booked accommodations here for our 20 year Anni.

Cutesy street view, self check in (all digital), clean premises and entryway, unique quarters.

We were assigned to Room #5.
112sq ft of intimate space, cleanliness and entertainment.
Nicely new/ updated rooms, pretty décor, toiletries provided, in room remote thermostat, clothing storage, natural light and room lights, cable tv, etc.

I loved everything about this room.
It is smack in the middle of Georgetown.
You can literally walk everywhere your heart desires.

Located in a clean and safe neighborhood, late night food and entertainment gems, etc.

There are moderately priced garages everywhere. Street metered parking if you're lucky, and a few free parking spaces 1 street over.

Hubby and I are already making plans to return!
This place is a must stay... Trust me !!

What a great find! Located in the heat of Georgetown, in a historic building overlooking the canal. A limited number of rooms. Excellent modern all renovated rooms at an amazing price. The only concern / downside is that if you do get a room upstairs, you'll have to carry your bags up a narrow stairwell. Also be forewarned that there is neither a reception desk, nor a concierge. The check in is available only through a kiosk, which is non standard, so you better have your phone ready to be able to check in, since the reservation will contain a code that is vital for the check-in process.

Amazing location, small rooms but the get the job done. You want to be out and about in Georgetown and not in a room. There wasn't an ironing board or iron. Everything else was great. Very easy access with a code to get in the door and your room. There is a kiosk for access without a front desk. We ha don't issues at all and Everytime I called the hotel was quick to answer and help me out.

Although I stayed this place only two nights for business trip in D.C . It is super clean and located very busy area and also get to be hammered by the canal construction noise in the morning. You could hear your neighbours or the people who are walking outside . I was staying in Lock 4 where the window is attached or facing walking street and you can hear the conversation of the people walking down in the street . There are two starbucks near the hotel and restaurants which was very satisfying. There is also free coffee, water and tea down stairs or in the kitchen that was plus. There was a mini chair and table in my room which was also great for my work. Definitely will stay here my next business trip. ...

Highly recommend for a small and beautiful gem in the heart of Georgetown just off M Street and on the canal. Clean, well appointed, kitchen with coffee and refrigerator available, cute outside seating. Emphasized rich history with text and photos.

I stayed a week and loved it; as a solo traveler the shared kitchen with free tea and coffee a bonus, even though there are a lot of cafes and restaurants, you didn’t have to go out or just sit in your room for refreshment or snack. Well thought out design in compact spaces; good use of Ikea in furnishings and decor.

Love it here! We go to Georgetown every few months just to chill and go see a show at Blues Alley. We can see the show, eat at one of 20 different restaurants and have amazing biscuits and lattes in the morning at Baked and Wired and only walk about 100 yards to each. Rooms are small, but clean and comfy which is perfect for us.

Quaint, charming place. Perfect for solo traveler or couple. Comfortable bed. Quiet, easy to get in and out, close to a lot of places. Only negative - like 10 TV channels, and no extra viewing options. Once again, not a deal breaker, but this is my only complaint.

Stayed in Lock #10 for two nights in mid-October. Wonderful stay. Bottom line, I definitely recommend the Georgetown House and would (Will) stay again. Comparing the value, quality, and location across other Georgetown properties – this place is a hand’s down winner! Few points:
1. Comfortable bed, clean room. Locks 10 and 11 seem like they would be the best choice, other locks have common doors just outside your door, so you hear everyone coming / going and getting coffee, etc.
2. Nice little two-person outdoor patio set outside lock #10, very nice for sharing a night cap.
3. Others have commented about the absence of staff, I do agree this is off putting but everything seemed to work with a little ‘figuring out’.
4. For example, checking in at the ATM like machine, which takes a $100 deposit – and provides a numerical key code to your room. It was unclear to me that code ALSO opens the front door just to the right of the ATM, and whether that door was the common entrance.
4a. Another reviewer also mentioned their deposit took longer than they expected to be refunded, I was surprised to see the deposit move to a charge vice dropping from ‘pending charges’, took the full 5 days to credit after I called – expect a delay, the refund is not instant.
5. On the coffee machine, it defaults to a 6oz pour. Override that and select 10oz – that fills the cup entirely and doesn’t waste the Keurig grounds in the capsule.
6. Location could not be better, don’t miss dinner at Clyde’s or a dessert to go from Filomena’s (Turtle and Strawberry cheesecakes are spectacular, all made in house).
7. Common area kitchen has a full size refrigerator with 11 labeled bins, each for a lock – nice to be able to chill a bottle of wine or other items as needed.

Would stay again, thank you Georgetown House!

This place is so quaint and clean! Everything looks brand new from the time you walk in the main door all of the way through and into your room. Had a little trouble using the check in kiosk but someone answered the phone as soon as I called the number listed in the email. Shopping and eating are just a few steps from your door!
