The trail is for the most part flat. I walked about 3 miles out from the trailhead and back. It is fairly well maintained with the exception of a fee rough patches and some sections where slippery/slimey (due to moisture) leaves were on the paved path. There was also fresh horse poop in some areas, so anyone walking or riding their bikes on the path had to be watchful of these obstacles. There were a few people riding bikes and a few runners but the trail was mostly used by people walking. One can tell that this trail used to be a path for a railroad track since the bridges were substantially built. It is a very scenic trail with trees with colorful leaves that were turning yellow and red. There is a fresh scent of a damp forest mixed with the scent of burning wood from the local residential fireplaces. I turned around at the more recently built pedestrian bridge that crosses over Highway 6. This bridge is unique in that it is built such that it curves in two different directions over the top of Highway 6 creating an "S" shape if one were looking at it from an aerial view. I read that this trail is some 50 miles long but only about 10 miles of it is paved. I would love to come back with my bike (using either a mountain or gravel bike) and ride the entire trail.

Beautiful bike trail through rural Lewis County. Paved for about 6 miles on the eastern end, but most of the rest of the trail is on hard packed gravel/dirt so doable for all except very narrow tire road bijes.

Wonderful rails-to-trails riding experience. I highly recommend a ride on this trail. We started at the Eastern end in Chehalis but I would love to ride all the way to the coast. The eastern end starts out paved but then it's mostly well-packed fine gravel after 10 miles or so.

Flat paved trail, lots of bikes, walkers and dogs but still a good place to expose horses. I think this trail will be a great option when other trails get muddy or unpassable due to trees. I really enjoyed the bridges.

Oh this is a great trail for everyone to enjoy! Walking, biking, picnics, fishing, the scenery is beautiful! Started out at the Chehalis Trailhead State Park, yes, grab your Discover Pass. There is a vault toilet. Heading West, it's paved for 5 miles, then turns to packed gravel, narrow in spots, and returns to pavement around Raymond to South Bend. Did I mention the bridges! Gorgeous!

Beautiful trail with amazing scenery. Also a 4 minute bike ride from our campsites. Lots of people come out for the Ride the willapa event, which happens once a year as well in June, and is a lot of fun.

A nice easy trail. It's paved about 5.3 miles to just past Adna. But in August 2022 the trail is closed at about 2 miles for construction of a bridge overpass over what was a dangerous highway crossing. There is no easy detour.

Update: The bridge over the highway is open now and it’s spectacular!

Great place for a spring bike ride, out to the end of the pavement for me and my girl. Compact gravel beyond is fine too, just wanted a three hour ride roughly. The new overpass at Highway 6 is nice and alot safer. Good spot for a picture too. Fair warning about parking at the Chehalis trailhead. In the spring the Cottonwood are dropping a bunch of leaf casings with pitch and will make a hell of a mess on your paint and widows. I spent an hour cleaning up the mess at home but knew what to expect when I parked there. Also don't forget to bring your Disco Pass, this is a State Park.

Great ride. Parked here and road with 4 kids to the newest bridge over the highway. Smooth pavement the entire way. Beautiful views. Lots of shade. Total of 7 miles.

My friend and I checked out this trail about a month ago and we both love it very much. It's very interesting that this trail used to be a railroad so it feels like we are walking on history. Definitely a place I will bike a lot this summer

This was the best trail ride, really beautiful countryside smooth trail, cool old bridges, was not able to complete the entire ride, rode about sixteen miles, will do again next year

This trail is a wonderful trail for hiking or biking because of the beautiful scenery. If you are on a bike , the trail is paved from the Chehalis trailhead for a while. Then it's packed dirt. After that it is mostly gravel. I had to bike it in my highest gear and I still course get a good grip. I only went 25 miles into the trail from the Chehalis trailhead and I had to turn around. It is very beautiful there though. Next time I plan to do the whole 56.

State Parks maintenance guy just installed steel ramps to correct a 4" height difference from a subsiding trail to the adjoining bridges and trestles. I guess that is what happens to a century old rail line run across a boggy terrain.

This is great for year round access. Level 56 miles of trail from chehalis to raymond. Starts out paved, goes to gravel, then gravel dirt mix as you go further towards the west. Always other people on trail. Safe. Has many arking spots along the route. Great for horses especially in winter no mud.

Great trail, gravel section was ok for 28c tires. Pretty buggy in some spots. Amazing scenery.

Great little hike 🚶‍♂ beautiful if you stand in the middle of the bridge 🌉 and your facing the parking spots to the left of the bridge will be the car

Great trail, definitely five star, HOWEVER, lots of irresponsible dog owners leave their dogs poop on the trail. Very very frustrating, I’ve stepped in it and ran my stroller over it. Lots of people complain of this. Have respect

It is beautiful, there was a bunch of wildlife, it wasn't grounded at all, beautiful places to take photos, and is overall my favorite place to walk or ride my bike

This is a great place to walk, ride your bikes, or skate board for a good long distance. Love walking along this trail, and there are many entry points along the way to Raymond. Just be careful not to leave valuables in the car.
