Hems Brothers Mortuary

Dad passed on 18-JAN-2024, the following day I met with Kirk and Jaimie. They were wonderful to work with. Being that I live out of state and needed to return the following week, they were able to make all the arrangements for the funeral to take place before my scheduled departure. My family and I are grateful to them and their staff who were respectful and caring throughout the process. All that is left is to wrap-up how the headstone will be updated to include dad’s name along side of mom’s, as they share the same plot.

Kirk and his team or excellent to deal with. They are kind and communicative, which is all you can ask for from a mortuary. While I would rather not have to deal with them, my circumstances forced me to. And out of everyone that I dealt with during this ordeal, hems brothers was the most kind.

Their fees are reasonable, and they handled my loved one with care and compassion.

The service that’s Hems provided was so very professional. They were very kind. Everything was taken care of , I did not worry about anything. Thank you so much.

The people who work there are very Smart I wish I was smart like them I would love to work there be part of something Important and respectful And respected keep up the good work someday I would love to be of your team

Rest in peace grandma I miss u so much

The truck assigned to the Calexico cemetery ran over my grandmother's flowers after we left. The flowers (bright yellow sunflowers) were damaged and the family disrespected with this act.

Definitely lack of care and respect for our deceased loved ones.

My grandmother was exemplary God fearing woman and doesnt deserve this treatment.

Don't go there! Way overcharged for everything. They charged us $300 extra supposedly to "store" my MIL body and then didn't even do the cremation for months because they were so backed up. Their receptionist has a personality lacking in warmth. Not a feel good place.

They have incurred much added and unnecessary grief on many hard working Imperial Valley residents . These people have no sympathy but for the greed and love of money. Extremely poor business practices. Our family learned this the hard way.

I really wish I would have read reviews first, but when you don’t have time to investigate, you go with the name you know...I am currently experiencing all the same issues from the rude service from the woman who answers to the phone. Not to mention wanting to move my mom to a different place costs as much as a cremation. They are definitely not doing the Lords work. Money hungry! I’m upset that my mom is in the care of Hems Brothers! My mom deserves so much better!!! I wish I had the money or I’d move her!!! Do NOT use this establishment!!!! I repeat DO NOT!!!

If I could give this company a minus 5, that's what I would score them. Definitely would not recommend. I figured it would be less expensive to deal with a local business. My spouse passed away in El Centro Hospital and this was the closest and only funeral home in town. Very expensive for very basic service. Pick up at the hospital and cremation. NOTHING ELSE, NOTHING EXTRA. I asked to have the ashes split up. Sure, no problem but you have to pay for each portion. I don't remember how much. When I asked at the end of the meeting whether I could see my sweetie one more time, they said sure again - for $250.00! Disgusting.

I am beyond livid with this place. My mom passed from a stroke in September of this year it is almost the New Year and she was barely cremated a few weeks ago. I called so I could go pick up her ashes and thought I was getting her death certificate from them and the lady told me to go on the website to order it and I told her why should I have to order it when I was charged for it by them. I will never use this place again. They used to be good but now they suck so don't do business here because you'll be waiting to finally put your loved one at peace.

OMG! The service here is more than terrible. Starting from the front office. The woman who answers the phone is rude and has every excuse in the book. She is also the one who takes you in when you arrive at the funeral site and she takes the orders. If you place an order, something so simple as a flower vase for the cemetery, they will make you wait months for it. The owner will not make an order until there are 10 flower vase requests. Also, be prepared to walk into a funeral home from the 1950's. It has not been renovated since it was built and it looks and feels creepy inside.

I have been in the life insurance industry for about 10 yrs & have assisted several beneficiaries during an assignment/claim. I'm advising EVERYONE to stay away from this mortuary home. They make a simple process VERY complicated. Curt is very RUDE & non-cooperative. This is the first time that I have dealt with Hems Brothers & I hope to NEVER have a client go to them for ANY type of service. Please look elsewhere.

Horrible service they have no feelings just care about the money

If possible I would give this business no stars what so ever. Horrible service. They just want to scam you and take all your money. The cemetery they work with is horrible and not well kept at all for it to be considered “private”. Have been trying to get a gravestone and flower holder put on the grave area and they either don’t answer calls or say they aren’t providing those services. It’s almost been a year since the actual funeral service and we are still struggling to get things done.

Someone needs to start a Mortuary in the Imperial Valley.

Hems Brothers Mortuary DO NOT accept credit card. Dealing with the demise of a family member is hard enough, learning that they will not accept credit card as a form of payment was devastating. Living in 2019, I would have expected them to move with the times; but since there is no competition in the Imperial Valley, why would they.

Worst place I’ve ever had to deal with in my life. Every time I remember them keeping my grandmas body and demanding more money makes me want to go and scream at them again. It’s been 4 years since they made me cry so much cause of how heartless they were and I still get beyond mad. I’ll never ever forget the way they made me feel...
