Amazing surgeon, Dr. Petrie performed a complicated shoulder surgery which took more than three hours. I took my physical therapy very seriously and in each follow up appointment I showed solid gains and he was really happy that I took the PT so seriously, as when patients don’t, the outcomes are not nearly as positive. He has an excellent bedside manner and is always pleasant to see as my lengthy rehabilitation continues. I don’t ever want another rotator cuff surgery, however, if I did I would not see anyone but Dr. Petrie and his very capable staff.

THANK YOU Dr. Petrie for a great job addressing my full ACL reconstruction and Meniscus repair. Also thank you Dr. Petrie for asking me not to rush for surgery and pushing me to do Knee Rehab prior to surgery which is now helping me recover faster from full ACL surgery. I went to see 3 Ortho surgeons and your experience, great way of educating patients, coming up with a great game plan for the best outcome and quick recovery made the decision making part very easy to go with you for proper care and surgery at that very first visit. I also appreciate your post surgery calls to ensure I am doing OK and comfortable. That meant a lot to be honest. Kerri your PA was also amazing and very thorough with her instructions pre and post surgery. Thank you both for everything !! I hope I don’t break anything else going forward, but If I do, I know where to go now.

Dr. Petrie is an extremely good surgeon. He is kind and concerned about his patients. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Petrie is a straight shooter. Is very patient and takes his time explaining exactly what will happen pre and post op. His team is very thorough and insure you’re as comfortable as possible before and after surgery. I really benefited from the portal checking on your progress after surgery. Lots of good information on what to expect. Overall a really good experience for my first surgery ever. Great results so far 3 weeks after surgery. Thanks!

I had been limping for years with a torn meniscus because I was scared of surgery.
The pain got unbearable and so I finally faced my fear and did the surgery.
I am so glad I went to Dr. Petrie. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and feel amazing. I am able to walk without pain!!!

Dr Petrie is the best orthopedic doctor I have ever been to, he is personable, cares about his patients and so truly wants to help them have a better life. As far as the surgeon his abilities and techniques are amazing. I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Petrie has done surgery on both of my knees in different procedures, 5 years apart. Did an excellent job both times. He's very professional, clear in his explanations, no nonsense but friendly. Both times the procedures went exactly as described, no complications, and quick recoveries. His office is very professional, as was the surgical center. I strongly recommend Dr. Petrie.

Dr Petrie is an excellent surgeon and extremely knowledgeable. His communicative skills match his medical excellence. His is meticulous, methodical and caring in his treatments. He repaired (3 muscles ) of my right rotator cuff and bicep. I had minimum pain and I am recovering very well. His P.A. Kerri Knodel seems to be as knowledgable and can make a patient feel just as ease as Dr Petrie. I highly recommend his practice.

Dr. Petrie is an amazing and caring surgeon. He is communicative in both pre-op & post-op and uses his God given skills to fix whatever you’ve broken.
Dr. Petrie repaired my broken femur in 2009, which healed-up fully functional and pain free. So naturally when I recently tore my meniscus I called upon the gifted Dr. Petrie.
My procedure lasted quite a bit longer than projected however I’m grateful Dr. Petrie took the necessary time needed to repair my knee correctly.
I’m now 3 wks post-op and confident I’ll fully recover after physical therapy is complete.
Newport Orthopedic Institute also has a professional staff of nurses and receptionists who have the capabilities of making your surgery date a pleasant one.

Dr. Russell Petrie is skilled, knowledgeable and gifted in the field of Orthopedic surgery and his PA-C Kerri Knodel is also amazing and quite knowledgeable. What an amazing team and speaking of team, Dr. Petrie is the Orthopedic physician/surgeon for the Los Angeles Chargers.
In 2016 I had my right shoulder repaired by Dr. Petrie. Yes an 80% rotator tear with cartilage damage and a shaved clavicle and today good as new. Currently I finished my left shoulder consult and will be seeking repair of several issues that have caused tremendous pain and lack of functionality. I met with Dr. Petrie and Kerri and they both were quite thorough on the prognosis, risks, treatment, surgery and recovery. I could not ask for a more knowledgeable and gifted surgeon and team! If you are looking for the best in this field look no more. I highly recommend Dr. Petrie, Kerri and staff as they are second to none!

MRI and X-ray showed some real issues with my left rotator cuff. Surgery was determined to be an appropriate option to remedy the pain and fix the muscles in the shoulder. My goal is to return to golfing pain free. The Doctor explained risks, benefits, and recovery timeframe in a very straightforwardly manner.

After having had the surgery all I can say is Dr Petrie is an absolutely amazing surgeon. Reading my surgery report confirmed what a skilled surgeon I had with Dr Petrie.

The first couple of weeks after surgery are challenging managing the pain and lack of consistent sleep.

I would suggest to anyone seeking shoulder surgery to definitely visit with Dr Petrie first!!

I had an excellent experience with Dr Petrie, and with his entire staff. They are personable, knowledgeable and want to ensure that you have a good recovery. They follow you for several weeks post-op, with daily emails, to check on your progress and pain control. You also have several post-op appointments with him, for follow up and any other issues you might have.
I found the entire process easy and very efficient, and would highly recommend him for any shoulder surgery.

Dr. Petrie and his staff are terrific. My preoperative experience was smooth and the postoperative one has been great so far. I had almost no pain after my shoulder surgery. I didn't even need any pain medication.

I am a couple of weeks out of post op. This is my second surgery by Dr. Petrie assisted by Kerry. My first was completed on my right shoulder, two years ago. It is better than I could have imagined. As for my left shoulder, again only two weeks post op, I have an infection. While my shoulder continues feeling better every day, I now have a pic line in and I have an infusion of an antibiotic every day. Dr. Fee at Hoag, working with Dr. Petrie, are now trying to save me from having to go through another operation. If this infection doesn't derail my plan for getting back on the course..... I am forever grateful.

I am currently recovering from shoulder scope surgery. I can't say enough about Dr. Russell Petrie other than he is incredibly knowledgeable, caring with his patients, communicates effectively, and is highly professional. Dr. Petrie has performed surgery on both my knees and now both shoulders. The results of these surgeries have allowed me greater mobility pain free.
After surgery 2 weeks ago, I have had online contact daily from his staff as to my pain levels, healing progress, and answered every question I have had in a timely manner. This is the only doctor that I trust when it comes to shoulders and knees.

Dr Petrie and his team is great! I had shoulder replacement surgery 2 weeks ago and can tell it solved my arthritis problem. After a couple days the pain was minimal. They said I'd be in a sling for 6 weeks but I don't need to wear it, I just keep it in limited use and don't make moves that hurts. I'm happy I decided to have it done. I had both knees replaced by this same organization 6 months ago and that went great too.

Dr. Petrie is unquestionably one of the premier shoulder surgeons in Orange county. As a physician myself I am very particular about whom I choose as a surgeon. From bedside manner to surgical expertise and comprehensive follow up, not only Dr. Petrie but his whole team is exceptional.

Wonderful doctor and team. Everyone has been very kind, considerate, and helpful through the whole process of my shoulder repair surgery. If I had a question after surgery they responded back to me within an hour. Highly recommend!
