My Wife and I were on Fox Island for a day of exploration. After visiting the Sand spit, we thought we would explore the grounds of the historical society for a bit before heading to the fishing pier. As the app warned it may be closed we had no expectations when arriving. While I was taking photos of the murals and grounds, my Wife ran in to Cathy who was doing chores and setting up for the day. Even though the museum was officially closed, we were invited in and were warmly greeted! As we were the only visitors at the time, Cathy took time from her work to show us around and share stories, the history, and experiences of living on the Island! And even though it is not a large museum, the items within are worth the time to see. We will definitely be back for sure! Must check out the used book room as well. The donated books can rival a Half-Price books selection, so definitely a check after spending time in the museum.

The place was closed when but a lady drove up to run an errand at the museum and she was kind enough to let us in to look around. She was very knowledgeable and told me things I didn't know, for example, Native Americans were interned on the island during the Medicine Creek Treaty Wars. I was thrilled to see a display about the Cootiettes, an organization that was started to help soldiers during WWI. They got their name because one of their jobs was to pluck lice out of soldier's hair. There were uniforms on display and some of them were emblazoned with lice! We were given with a map so we could explore other historic sites on the island.
I really appreciated having a friendly docent all to ourselves at this tiny museum and am so appreciative of her openness and enthusiasm for her community.

Wonderful museum. Full of books and artifacts. The people there will gladly give a tour and guide you around any specific topics you may be interested in.
If you enter the women's bathroom, you will find a suprise guest in the bath tub. XD
Picked up several books (and a few comics) and checked out the "Clay Babies" display. These rare calcite concretions can only be found at the top of the island around the spit.
It is illegal to take them from the spit or the private beaches without permission. Please respect a Pack it In - Pack it Out Policy and leave the area the way you found it.
They are also trying to seed the beach with oysters and clams, please do not disturb these creatures and do not disturb the kelp lying around. The crabs and other creatures use it for protection.
The cabin was locked, but we had a nice look from the outside. Great location for quick stop with great hosts. Will recommend to others.

What a great local museum. There are period furnished rooms, a library and looks like a little book shop

An absolutely darling museum with a used bookstore attached. I got a personal tour by Doreen who also gave me all the local tips and tricks of the island. I will definitely be back and I recommend it to everyone!

Love the museum! Great gifts for Christmas and they have added the ever-essential masks as a new item with a classy fox on the front. Kids sizes too. Beautiful Willets Canoe on display right now. They are back to taking book donations.

Absolutely loved it. Local history is so interesting. The whole staff were very knowledgeable and extraordinarily friendly. They especially loved telling my daughter about all the interesting things. If you're from Washington or not it's worth a stop.

Great place to pull off and take a leak in the bushes, while waiting to serve court papers for a friend. Neat little cabin from 1908 as well. Would highly recommend for anyone who happens to not already be from F.I.

Cute little museum run by older ladies who live on the island. One took us under her wing and showed us around, telling us the (colonizer's version of the) history of the island. Highly recommended.
