Porterfield Creek Preserve

Absolutely love coming here. It's pretty hidden away, so you don't get gigantic crowds going through, and the people that are there always seem extremely friendly! It obviously doesn't have as many or as long of trails as something like Annadel or even Taylor Mountain, but the trails that are there are pretty fun and varied. You can get to some decent spots with gorgeous vistas down into the valley where the rest of Cloverdale sits and across to the other mountains.

There's also a creek that runs along Preserve trail that is fantastic to walk along during the early spring after the rains. Following the creek up a bit can even get you to a small seasonal waterfall that is cool to see. My dogs love it as well, and I've even taken my mountainbike up and around the main loop a few times.

If you just do the main loop (preserve->3 bridges->tank), it's about a mile of walking, and is relatively mild and groomed as far as elevation and path condition, so it's great for families with small kids and the like.

The North Ridge trail that wraps around to the North side of the preserve is great to go up, although be warned about an extremely steep staircase like section coming down. A similarly steep staircase section can be found on the West side of Clark trail. For some open area rocky trails with brush around instead of trees, split off Clark to the South. I think it's possible to get views of the backside of Lake Sonoma, although I've not tried it myself (and may very well take you onto private property, so again, be warned).

Again, love coming here, and it's close enough to home that I usually just walk there, at least if I'm just taking the dogs on the main loop. There are a few (like 3 or 4) parking spots but if those are filled up, people just park in the street nearby. There are some water fountains at the start, even one low down for dogs, and there are benches spread along the main loop in a couple spots to relax at. One is right next to the creek, which is a fantastic spot to relax and listen to the water flowing and birds calling.

Well maintained, easy to follow trails, sturdy bridges with high railings, Beautiful spring scenery.

Awesome trails! So gorgeous! Moderate level trails as well as some easy trails. Great place to go hiking or waking!

I should have walked up to this place, not far from my house, when I started hearing about it 4 years ago. Nothing like a good dose of procrastination !!!

Porterfield Creek preserve is a very well planned out beautiful and and and AND, serene open space right on the edge of Cloverdale in the Foothills leading up to lake Sonoma.

Be prepared if you haven't hiked in the in the hills for awhile, the trails are well-groomed and easily followed, but these are the beginnings of mountains, so all the trails are a little bit on the steep side.
Anyway really enjoyed getting out there and we'll hopefully be doing it again soon...

We stopped here for a hike on our way home from a quick trip to Hopland. It was a nice hike with shade and beautiful views.

Fun place to get a few miles of biking in if you are in the area. The trails are easy to figure out and we’ll taken care of.

Quiet and beautiful on a chilly Saturday evening. Loved hiking to the sound of running water. We appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining these trails and preserving this piece of forest!
