If you have naturally curly hair, you must see Starr! I have been battling my curly hair for years, straightening it, blow drying it and not appreciating the curls I had. Starr did a dry cut on my hair/curls and her attention to detail for every single curl was amazing. She taught me how to treat my curls, how to wash, dry, sleep. It was such an educational experience and as you'll see from the before/after - my hair is SO happy now! The salon is gorgeous - so quirky and fun and Starr is wonderful - so welcoming, friendly, and a joy to be around. I highly recommend Starr and am so happy I found her!

i'm so impressed with everything about this studio. i went earlier today for a curly cut and starr is now my go to hairstylist! her attention to detail was fascinating to watch. every single curl got closely paid attention to and styled individually. starr was also SO warm and friendly and made me feel so comfortable, she knows how to create an uplifting vibe/soothing experience. thank you so much!!

First off, I'm so happy I treated myself to this salon and it's awesome stylist, Starr!
She was so welcoming and knowledgeable about ways to trim and style my wavy hair and made me feel like I'd finally get a hair cut/style that I'd be happy with (have almost never found that hair stylists know how to cut curls).
Well...I do, and she DID!!

We chatted about how I can change my wash routine to get better results. She is a very good listener, and fun to be around as well. She did not try to push me to purchase products from her salon, but made a nice recommendation about a curl refresher, which I did buy at a local drugstore, and love so far!

I did the curly cut and style treatment, which is well worth the $200 cost, which is listed on their website, because
1) I love the results for my curl type and length - she does DRY CUT!!! iykyk.
2) she worked me with alone for over 2 hours, working on each curl and checking the way they lay in different angles
3) local, woman-owned small business, price is fair for the cute old town Camarillo location and clean, welcoming vibes.

Overall I'm so grateful that I found Unique Hair Studio. If you have waves/curls, don't hesitate to try this salon and embrace your natural style.

I put off getting a good curly cut for the last 3 years (Covid, moving to Ventura, not trusting anyone with my hair) until I found Star and Unique Hair Studio, and I'm so happy I did!

From the booking process, to the cut and styling, to grabbing some products to take home at the end, my whole experience was lovely. Star did an amazing job with my unruly, lots of dead-ends hair, she completely brought it back to life. She provided education and answered all of my questions, and helped me identify a routine that would work with my hair type and active lifestyle. Normally, when I leave a curly cut, I am made to feel like I need 4-5 super pricey products to maintain my hair health. Star didn't pressure me into buying any products and ensured me that I could keep things simple with just two products. Cherry on top of a good haircut is good conversation!

The salon is located in Old Town/Downtown Camarillo in a quaint little studio space. The aesthetic is casual but inviting and you absolutely feel at home once you’re there; natural lighting gives the room an open feel while the bohemian decor lends to its wonderful charm.
The owner, Starr, is an absolute delight to work with. Her extensive knowledge about curls and ethnic/textured hair makes her a hidden gem in Ventura County. She truly cares about her craft and making sure each individual leaves satisfied with their experience at Unique. Much attention is given to face shapes/hair type and what works best with the lifestyle of each client.
I was overdue for a haircut and Starr made sure she gave me the best trim so I could work on growing it out healthy. I was shown how to style my hair at home and even recommended hair products that work with my dry texture, which she personally delivered to me at work - how thoughtful is that!? I had a great time chatting it up with Starr and this hair salon trip was sublime in so many ways. Would definitely recommend others support this Woman + Black-owned small business.

Stumbled upon her cute/stylish salon and I am SO glad I did. Her vibe is amazing and she is super professional. You can tell how much pride she takes in her work. Not only do they know hair and are masters doing it, but from the moment I walked in the first time I felt like I had been going there forever. They were so friendly, so helpful, and the salon is charming and very inviting. I was told to text them if I had any problems or questions, this is not a connection I have had anywhere else. I felt so good when I left that I honestly can’t wait until I go back.

Today I brought in my step daughter who was anxious about someone touching her hair. She was never taught how to care for her curls. Starr was patient, and attentive. She explained what her hair needed and how to care for it. Starr's generous, compassionate spirit put my step daughter at ease immediately. Her hair looks fantastic!
