Hale Park

Great space for dogs to socialize and run free. Nice quality grass and soil. Excellent dog “waste stations” are located at each end of the field as well as elegant benches and a sort of “patio” surface area. These are useful for the park users but also for the dogs and owners who prefer to stay away from the main scrum on the field or who are enjoying the sidewalk path that rings the park. There are also a number of brand-new foot paths and pedestrianized streets that feed into and out of the park. So lots of walkers and very little vehicle traffic and virtually no “through traffic.”
The field is green and loamy in the day and very, very well-lit by a ring of lanterns casting beautiful lighting at night, with the nice slopes forming a sort of half-bowl, it sort of resembles a rustic amphitheater. Maybe an umbrella or two might be useful during the afternoon heat, though?

The real treasure are the dogs and owners AT the park, though. There is a string core organic community of local dogs and familiar faces — but new dogs and people are always popping up from farther afield. Because of its location in the (spacious) center of a ring of apartment buildings and a lack of “through streets,” the park is incredibly hard to spot until you are right on it. I spoke to a longtime barista at the cafe half a block away from the park who had absolutely no idea that the field existed at all. Until you stumble upon it, most people in the neighborhood would have no idea it was an option. There is no clique mentality among the regulars, but the park seems to have a gift for attracting friendly regulars and fostering a sense of low-key community spirit with those old kindergarten ideals of sharing and socializing. Perhaps there are only a few random “bad owners” or “mean dogs” who show up at the park per year because after they watch the rest of the HALE pack of dogs and dog-lovers they just end up having to leave after a visit or two from a sense of deep shame and embarrassment.

**Important Clarification/Caveat: This is not an “official city dog park,” so it is not suitable for dogs that require a fence for off-leash play. However, it was designed with a large hedge and scooped sides to keep dogs from accidentally leaving the grass area. The streets next to the dog park are essentially driveways for accessing a few shops between apartment buildings — very low traffic. Many dogs and owners are from the surrounding buildings, but new faces show up all the time.

Hidden gem.

Moved into the Milo apartments this summer and this park has been such a luxury for our dog! We always enjoy playing fetch here on the well kept grassy area!

Small gate less dog park that's great for trained dogs. If your dog can't handle being off lease do not bring your dog here, there's plenty of traffic and it could be dangerous.

Too small and in a really strange area. This park is more for the rich yuppies that live in the buildings next door. I only came here to join a big bicycle ride, and I gotta say, I don't ever want to come back.

This is not a dog park. There is minimal Green space and nothing fenced in
