Al's Downtown Diner

I just moved to Ferndale, and though I have heard amazing things about Cedars, something stood out about Al’s, so I popped in for lunch. Breakfast for lunch, of course!

Kim was my server, who was fast, kind, happy, and unwilling to let my coffee go cold or empty. She asked if I wanted my eggs on top of my biscuits and gravy, so I tried it, and that’s a game changer! The dish, by the way, was delicious and very filling; satisfied my southern taste with surprising results!

Worth every penny, and I wish them lots of success, they deserve it!

Another nice American diner. Great service and location in Ferndale. Check it out on the way to Bellingham. Decent coffee too!

Al's was recommended to us and we were glad we went. The food was delicious and the portions on the larger side. There are quite a number of options on the menu, especially considering the size of the diner. It's easy to see why the locals eat here, so if you're passing through Ferndale you won't regret stopping here.

Although I wish there was a vestibule to keep the cold out, it's easy enough to dress warmly or in layers to enjoy a nice breakfast at Al's Diner. The service is always friendly, food is consistent and served quickly, and they have the best fresh bread. I'm from Pennsylvania where we love our apple butter and I can't tell you how happy I am that they have it at Al's!

Best meal I have ever had.
I had the eggs and they were the fluffiest eggs I ever and the bacon 🤤 oh the bacon it was not to crispy but just enough.

A nice alternative to the place across the street. I ordered a bowl of chilie and a cup of coffee. They were both good. And the service was good. A decent place to go.

This has become my favorite breakfast spot! We have tried other breakfast places nearby and not only is the food quality superior here, but the staff are so much more friendly! Penny and Trista are both great! They are closed on Mondays and close at 2 pm everyday, but I love that they serve breakfast anytime they're open!

I used to go all the time when it was in Blaine. Years ago. Was just told it opened in Ferndale. Best corned beef hash ever. No other place compares.

Chicken Fried Steak. Biscuits that melt in your mouth.

This place would be dangerous to our budget if we lived here!!! Great food! I had the chicken fried steak and home fries (yummy fried chunks of potatoes) and hubby had the eggs Benny. We ordered a “small” blueberry pancake to split, a giant which was served with real butter, huge fresh blueberries, and not made from a “just add water” mix. Delish!!!. Our coffee cups were never more than half empty! The food was excellent- the chicken fried steak was actually a ‘steak’, not burger- lightly battered and fried, the eggs were PERFECTLY poached. We were treated with consummate professionalism,and witnessed even a little extra care for an obviously regular elderly couple, and a group sitting under the chalkboard menu given a paper menu so they didn’t have to crane their necks. We appreciated the little special touches that aren’t often found these days, paired with excellent food.

Friendly local diner with great food. Open dining room makes for a bit more noise when busy.

Breakfast of Champion's. The portion was larger than my ability to consume it. Hot, fresh, and delicious with a hometown ambience.

The atmosphere was great I really felt at home 🏠. I have set myself a goal of trying the different restaurants in Whatcom especially their Egg Benedict.
