Centralia Fire Company No. 1

My paternal grandmother was born there in 1904 in a coal company house in a coal company community.
In 1909 or so she said her father moved the entire family to Kulpmont and prospects of a better coal company.
I'm glad to see that there is still some kind of emergency service to combat so many kinds of emergencies that the trolls forget can happen even to them.

Dear commentaries, if you used good to do your research instead of bashing innocent firefighters, you'd find out that they're the only ones still protecting this abandoned town. Google says "Experts believe the fires under Centralia could burn another 250 years before they exhaust the coal supply that fuels them. Why don't firemen simply put them out? They can't! The fires are too deep and burn too hot to be fought effectively."

Google also says it would take about $660 million to put out the fire. Instead of bashing thesw firefighters, whom risk their lives to save yours and make, what, $55k per year more or less... How about you take it up with political government standards... You know, the ones who have that $660 million in their bank accounts?

Too all the geniuses with the smart comments you should know facts before you comment they actually have alot of calls mainly clowns on atvs that can't ride and people who can't drive and blow though the stop sign can keep going oh and the guys who run it pay out of pocket for the truck and repairs and the fuel

I called and asked when the fire would be put out, and they said "soon" and hung up. 🙃
