J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood Kansas City

My wife and I had a really excellent meal at J Gilbert's. The service was impeccable with our waiter making relevant and justified suggestions. The room is beautiful, and the food is seriously top notch.

Sure the steaks are great but that is expected. The surprises were the terrific desserts, wonderful apps, and wow the pasta dish. Try the pretzel crusted onion rings! But really the best thing we ate was the blackened chicken pasta. I'm getting hungry writing about it.

The experience was based on restaurant week for a 3-course dinner. SO was very please with his A5 wagyu steaklets as it truly melted and exploded these amazing creamy beefy flavors. I enjoyed the blue cheese chips (think unconventional nachos 😘), crab bisque and scallops. The crab cakes were exquisite!! The chocolate velvet cake was decadent. The dinner was satisfying overall!

J. Gilbert's impresses with its culinary finesse and exceptional service, particularly from our server St. John. The drinks, including a blackberry sparkling martini, lavender drop, and mango tango, were delightful. The Marilyn crab bisque set a high standard, followed by perfectly cooked 8oz filet with lobster and a flavorful 6oz filet with demi glaze. The seasonal cheesecake rounded off the meal beautifully. Fast service and exquisite dishes make it a must-visit.

We waited entirely too long to visit this delicious eatery!
The Queen ordered the prefix with a delightful salad, 6 ounce filet, mashed, and asparagus. With chocolate cake as desert. While eating her salad, she declared it may be the best she's ever sampled.
My filet and lobster were perfectly cooked. As were the green beans and baked potato.
Desert is a must. Oh, so yummy!
Our pre dinner cocktails were delightful, as was the wine with dinner that the wait staff helped us select. Which, by the way, the staff was superb.
The atmosphere was fantastic. The lighting was just enough to see the menu, and it felt secluded and private.
This place sure does it right, and we look forward to turning on others to its magic.

So we love J Gilbert’s anyway but last night was really special. It was our daughter’s 16 birthday and we had a fairly large party (16). We had St. John as a waiter with help from another guy. Both were great, but St. John really made the night. His personality is great, attention to detail was great, and he sang an Opera version of happy birthday to the birthday girl. Thank you St John for the special experience and amazing service, we will be back to see you guys soon!!

First time visiting and overall very pleased. The only thing I wouldn't do again is the calamari. It was very, very greasy which made the dish feel heavier than I feel it should have. I liked the jalapeno rings it came with for flavor variation from batter and grease. I ordered the cowboy cut medium rare with lobster Mac and cheese and mushrooms. My steak was cooked well and flavorful. As good as my steak was, shockingly the lobster Mac stole the show. I normally have my steak first and take my sides home because I can never finish it all. I couldn't help myself once I tried it, I finished that first. I would absolutely love if this was a main dish! The ambiance and music of the restaurant were comforting as well. Our server was fun, attentive, and quick. It was a pleasant first experience and I would definitely come back again.

This place!!! Holy moly! J Gilbert's is top notch! Can't say enough about our whole experience. From our server (Jonah), the vibe, and naturally the food- everything was exceptional! The 3 course prix fixe is so worth it!

The Danish Blue Cheese crusted KC Steak was delicious. You have to try their carrot cake, best I’ve ever had!

I'm from out of town, But this place was a classic steakhouse with a very homey feel and not too pretentious. I'm not a meat eater but the lobster tails were perfectly cooked and everyone on their plate had different stakes which were perfect as well, plates fully cleared. They cook the lobster perfectly for me without butter and I also had a side of asparagus plain grilled, and usually chefs overcook or don't clean the asparagus stems well and they did it perfectly too. Desserts were tasty too, although ice cream came out half melted in the bowls.

Wanted a nice dining experience while in town for the weekend and wasn't disappointed. Service and drinks were exceptional! For the main course we had the KC Strip and Cowboy Ribeye, both were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The Lobster Mac, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes were all great. The only disappointment was the calamari, which was super greasy and seemed more like frozen from a box than I'd expect from this level of restaurant, however both dipping sauces it was served with were good. We will definitely be visiting again when we are in the area.

Fantastic food and service. The crab bisque is fantastic. The ribs are very tender, and so is the ribeye. Matt is a great server

My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. The filet mignon and ribs were awesome, but my husband absolutely loved the creamed corn with bacon. He said next time he wants 3 orders of just the corn 🤣🤣🤣

Ascend Hospice hosted our Physician Holiday Dinner at J. Gilbert’s this week and EVERYONE was elated with our server Maely. She seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to observing what was needed by our guests. She provided additional chairs and place settings when late guests arrived, drinks were always full and her pleasant demeanor made the evening so enjoyable.
The food was served very timely & every guest raved about their choices and the quality.
I will most definitely schedule private dining events at J. Gilbert’s in the future.

My wife and I have been going to J. Gilbert's to celebrate our wedding anniversary ever since we got married. The food is always exceptional and our experience this year was elevated by our lovely server, Mei Li. She helped us navigate some questions about the menu and made us feel very welcome. The new mocktails were delicious and you have to save room for dessert! The seven layer coconut cake is so so good.

Top notch service! Elegant atmosphere! Steaks are succulent and explode with flavor. We had the surf and turf special and were delighted with the value!!
Went for lunch Easter…wow! The 8oz filet was melt in my mouth delicious! Super great steak! Asparagus was perfectly grilled! Great place

We had our family wedding pre dinner in a private room Fri night and went back with family Sun night. Service and food was fantastic. We would highly recommend this venue for your special events. Loved it and will be back when I come back to town to visit my daughter and her family.

Our waitress, Karen B was fantastic! She made our evening amazing. I'm 68 & she got the biggest tip I have ever given. The only thing that was bad, they wouldn't take my sons coupon for his birthday. It did say not on .holiday, I realize it was Easter Sunday. Again kudos to Karen B. I will be back & I sure will request her. Thanks for making it a amazing meal. Craig
