Pratt County Historical Museum Reviews

This unassuming diamond in the rough is a must see place to visit when in Pratt, Kansas.
The museum holds an amazing collection of artifacts (photographs, historical documents, collectables and even machinery) from a bygone era!
The displays relate to Pratt County, the town of Pratt and also the state of Kansas.
There are amazing displays of fossils and Indian items (arrowheads and dresses) along with collections of clothes, hats and shoes from the late 19th century into the 20th!
The museum, at first glance appears deceptively small but in actuality, I believe it takes up most, if not all, of the square block it sits on!
So much so, that when I mentioned "machinery" I did not only mean stuff like toasters, typewriters and hand tools but also full on combine engines and John Deere tractors!
In addition, they have many storefronts like a bank, telephone, dentist office, etc., where you can go inside and view how it was set up in the past.
There is just too much at the museum to write it all here. Besides, I am sure that if I returned, I would see/notice stuff that I missed the first go around (and I was there for over 90 minutes).
Finally, a shout out to the very nice ladies that were "running" the museum! They were very nice to talk with and gave information as to what more to do while in Pratt!
Highly recommend!

We had SUCH a great time at this exceptional museum. We are so impressed! I can’t believe I hadn’t been before and can’t wait to go back and spend more time. It’s a fantastic look at the recent past, with examples of how homesteaders lived and a really lovely Native American collection with exquisite clothing and other items. Definitely recommend- the hours are limited so go when they open/ you will spend more time there than you expect to!

Myself and my children had the best experience at the Pratt historical museum!! There is so much to see there and a lot of cool little features that helped keep it engaging for the kids. Mainly, one of the ladies working told us about the Friendship Rocks, six of seven painted rocks hidden around the museum, for the kids to find and re-hide in each exhibit. At the end they got to sign their names in a special book and it made them feel so good about themselves.
The museum features the local history of Pratt. It features everything from the original settlement of the town, to their farming community being industrialized, turning the corner into an area which honors local war heroes. There is a very interesting upstairs you can't miss when you come and visit! As a homeschool parent this was a valuable resource for me, and it offered a lot of great conversation moments between myself and my children. No matter where you're from, stop into the historical center next time you're coming through Pratt.

From the street, one cannot imagine the size and scope of the museum that awaits inside. What an unexpected treasure! Very nice displays, and well maintained. We enjoyed the added benefit of tasteful Christmas decorations throughout. Their new Hartman Gallery had an especially impressive display of Native American artifacts.

Great little museum. It truly covers Pratt County, past and present. A nice collection of natural, Native American, pioneer, and more modern items. Laid out in a well designed set of side rooms and 'streets' to meander through to see what life was like in years gone by.

We were very pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful museum this is! It is Quite large, very well organized and has wonderful displays. My wife and I drove from Wichita and spent about three hours there. We’re going to go back and see it again just because we loved it so much. It is definitely worth a trip to see it.

As a Pratt native, I had not been into the historical museum in years, but unfortunate circumstances brought me in to donate some things with my aunt. I was absolutely blow away with how the museum had grown over the years. It makes me proud of my hometown and can't wait until I can come back to spend a few hours.

There is so much more in here than one might expect from the outside. Going inside is like stepping into Dr. Who's Tardis - it just keeps going and going. Absolutely worth a visit. If you haven't been in awhile, you should go again. The new Native American art & artifacts exhibit is world-class.

I was in town to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Miss Kansas Pageant (held in the same town) - as a family we went to the Museum to see the Miss Kansas portion of the Museum and we were impressed with the ENTIRE Museum. The way it is layed out, the content and how clean the Museum is. You all should feel proud of the GREAT job you have done. I am from a small town in Kansas (Colby) and still take pride in what an amazing job small towns do in preserving and embracing their history. Job Well Done. I have been to museums around the world, and this was impressive. A must see - you really need 2 hours to see this Museum to enjoy the vast history.

This is an absolutely incredible museum. The people in Pratt have put a lot of time and effort in creating a place that showcases their history. They feature incredible well kept peices of Indian history as well as stunning peices of history going back to the 1800's. Tge museum has a way of taking you back through time and showing uou what it was like in the early years of our country. I would absolutely recommend visiting this museum to anyone, it is a true treasure in American history.
