This was such a great treasure! We got the tour from a couple of wonderful ladies. It was a beautiful house and what a treasure it is to have it kept up and in great condition. It was so nice to walk through there, hear the stories, and see the details in the house. It's a must-see if you're on the area.

It was amazing!!! I got to climb up into the observatory and see the telescope. What an amazing view of the Ohio River!!!! No wonder the Gaff's chose that part of the property to build on

Gloria was our guide. She was informative, patient, and engaging. We really enjoyed learning all the historical facts and insights about the history of Hillforest and the Gaff family. Loved the restoration and plethora of artifacts throughout.
Definitely had some paranormal stuff while there. Nothing spooky, just presence felt and made known. Highly recommend a visit!

Visited/toured this amazing historic home - the tour was provided by Pat who gave us a lot of great historical information about the home, architecture, town, original owners, and various items within the home. It was a great experience and wonderful to hear about this home's place in early American history - through hard work, patriotism, ingenuity, and dedication.

Very good tour! Cost of the tour goes to the upkeep of this historic home. Lots of area history with this one family. Beautiful home! Definitely recommend this tour!

I absolutely loved this old house. The tour was very good and gave unique information. From the curved door to the floating staircase to the lookout, it was all beautiful. It was a little expensive for a family, but I'm so glad we went ahead and paid the price.

Informational tour with a patient and well-informed guide. The mansion is a commendable effort from the community in terms of restoration, which is ongoing. I would categorize the place as being "of local interest", as it's not the same caliber as the Lanier Mansion in Madison. It's still nice to see when you're in the area, and their status gives them more flexibility to put together events such as tea. I look forward to coming back for some of the events. They take credit cards and you can buy tickets at the door.

It was definitely worth the trip. The tour guides were very informative. The house is gorgeous and you get to do some areas you don't get in other historic houses.

Absolutely beautiful home.
The Historical Society has taken great care of this original home built on the Ohio river.
This is in Indiana. There used to be a little ferry that crossed the river transporting cars/people from the Indiana side over to Kentucky
Aurora is a small town, but you don't want to miss this piece of History.
Well worth the price of admission!!

An exquisitely renovated Italinate style mansion constructed in 1855 overlooking Aurora and the Ohio River. The docents were were very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Gaff family. The tour was very interesting and well worth the time.

Hillforest is a beautiful house. My Mom and I enjoyed our tour very much. The lady who gave us the tour was excellent and took time with us. She was knowledgable, kind, and personable. The tour was well worth the money and much longer than the brochure said it would be, which was great.

My wife and I today walked by this landmark and so enjoyed just stopping to take in its beauty. It looks like it was newly built.

The lane leading up to it has two giant sycamore trees and the gate leading to the Lane is bordered by two Pine trees on either side.

We Came in February and so the museum was closed but we look forward to coming back and enjoying a tour.

My Grandmother used to live in the servants quarters long before it became such a huge tourist site. We would play there when we were little, around 45-49 years ago. There was a hidden underground 'cave-like' place behind the house up in the hillside. I always loved being there with her, she would give the tours and it was fascinating to hear her describe everything little thing you wanted to know!! ☺

Must visit! My wife and I stumbled apon this magnificent place only by chance. This home is amazing and when you enter, it takes you back a hundred years. Get a sensw of how the wealthy of the time lived. The tour was awesome and very historically informative. We have been lots of places like this, but this one was the best! Keep your eyes peeled as you may catch a glimpse of it's past inhabitants! Rumor is that it is haunted.
