Vigo County Courthouse

I do enjoy seeing the buildings that were built to be used outstanding piece of architecture built in First erected in 1884, this building has been used as a courthouse or government building for many years. The limestone was brought in from Indiana quarries.

It’s was worth the visit inside is really nice as well.

Architecturally impressive county courthouse building in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. The building took four years to build, be completed in 1888. The dome reaches a height of 284 feet and there are some great statuary around the building. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Wow what a courthouse. The craftsmanship on the exterior is amazing.

They’ve really made some huge changes to look around the court house and city hall. Also a whole new parking lot! It looks great!

A nice architectural location. Construction of the building designed in the French Neo-Barogue style started in 1818 and finished in 1888 by Samuel Hannaford.

Words cannot fully express or describe my sincere gratitude for what I was privileged to witness today in a Vigo County Courtroom. After closely watching Honorable Judge Matthew Sheehan meticulously preside over 20 cases, my hope and faith in the American Justice System has absolutely been restored. Judge Sheehan treated every single individual that stood before him today, with the utmost respect and dignity. I watched in awe as he repeatedly addressed people using words like Sir and Mam. People from all walks of life were present in that courtroom today!!! Irrespective of the accused individual’s alleged or confirmed offense and irrespective of their race, gender, or age, Judge Sheehan spoke to each person with patience, compassion, and understanding. I was completely amazed to see how thorough and diligent (yet fair) he was with each case. In certain cases, he went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that the defendants completely understood their rights and legal options. Judge Sheehan was extremely professional and polite. After concluding each case, he personally wished each person the best of luck (in an extremely genuine and compassionate manner). This is exactly the type of understanding, compassion, and human regard that we are missing in the American legal system and in the world at large. Whilst I realize that my time with Judge Sheehan was extremely brief, it gave me a real sense of hope and a glimpse of what the American Justice System COULD BE like if we had more Matthew Sheehan’s on the bench (Compassionately Stern, but fair). I am sure that there are many other judges whom also are extremely polite, courteous, and fair. I am an avid believer in giving people their flowers while they can still smell them. So, to Judge Matthew Sheehan and to ALL the other Judges around the world that are like him (fair & compassionate), I say a VERY BIG THANK YOU for doing the right thing, the right way!!!

Before I conclude, I must state that I personally did not have any pending litigation or any criminal matter against myself at the court (I was merely in attendance to support a relative), so my statements are completely unbiased and 100% unprompted. I would be remiss if I also did not mention that Judge Sheehan and I attended high school together; however, our adolescent friendship absolutely has no bearing on my comments, nor did it affect the outcome of any decisions made in any case! I really was just amazed by the way he handled each case and most importantly how he treated each person. THIS AND ONLY THIS, is what inspired me to share these words of encouragement and acknowledgement. I truly hope that my words of admiration of Judge Matthew Sheehan will inspire every reader to become the very best version of themselves and exhibit goodness and compassion on daily basis with everyone they come into contact with.

I know we have not seen or talked to each other in at least two decades, but I am extremely proud of you; not because of the position you have attained becoming a young judge (which is truly an amazing feat), but I am MOST proud of the type of person you have become (the person I saw today)!!! The world needs more people like you bro, so don’t let us down!! Keep doing the right thing!!! #Sheehan4President LOL !!!!
