We had a great stay at Kara Tunga. We did a wonderful day hike, with Daniel as a guide, who was knowledgeable and attentive to us and the surroundings. Kara-Tunga not only offers great active and cultural experiences, but has an impressive impact on the region by educating staff, teaching members of the community, planting trees and much more. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Fantastic experience with our guide Emma. From the visit of the Tepeth tribe on Mt Moroto to the full boda-boda day visting the local Karamojong communities, ending at the cattle camp, everything was perfect. Emma, you're the best at helping us connect to locals in every way. Thanks for the memories!

I can't tell but visit to also have great memories of the area. What the founder does for youth, elderly and the community. Your mind about the region will change.

Kara-Tunga is fantastic. I went to Moroto and stayed at their accommodation, and basically did everything through their tours and activities. The food is delicious, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and the tours are each incredible experiences. Kara-tunga as a service-model itself is very respectable, it makes tourism in this beautiful and culturally-rich land accessible, while at the same time bringing much needed tourism $$ and global awareness to the communities. Travel to Moroto is a bit tough for solo travelers on a budget, but that isn't Kara-tunga's fault. And anyway this keeps the location so special, and makes the arrival at Kara-tunga's site that much better. The staff will guide you over the phone with all the information you need to get on the bus.

Going on the Tour of Karamoja in a couple of weeks so really looking forward. Cycling 250km of some of the most beautiful, pristine and unadulterated wilderness in all of Uganda. Thank you Theo of Kara Tunga for sharing this special place with us on this most wonderfully unique experience🙏🏿

AMAZING! I came here with a group of US travelers plus a group of young Karamojong adults visiting relatives. The space was clean, colorful, and fun. The boys loved the fire pit and outdoor seating area. The rooms were comfortable, the tents and people camping enjoyed that part too. Everyone had a great time and cannot wait to come back again!

Together with a friend I went on a 3 day hike at Mount Kadam. Before the first day we spent our night at Paranao Hostel in Nakapiripirit at our own cost. Unfortunately we could only leave additional luggage of ours that we wanted to leave in town at some cost in the hostel. The hike was really nice and all guides and porters were friendly and helped us. The guides had lots of experience and knew the mountain very well. Of course the 3 days were very exhausting but it was a good experience and the nature was awesome. Payment was possible via mobile money.
Kara tunga tours was always professional.

If you decide to visit this beautiful region, I advise everyone to stay here for at least 2 days.
The rooms in the guesthouse are clean and tidy and there are beautiful luxury safari tents on site.

The safari tent was really the ultimate in relaxation for me, it was fully equipped and is cleaned neatly every day.
The atmosphere here is relaxed and cozy, like coming home.
Everyone who works here is very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and they do everything to give you a pleasant experience.
The food is prepared with care and here I have also eaten the tastiest "Rolex" in Uganda.

The range of local tours and activities is very diverse and suitable for everyone.
Personally, I was allowed to spend a night at "the kraal" under the guidance of guides Peter and Florance.
They gave me the feeling from the first moment that I was safe and can tell you a lot about the Karamajon.
The friendly locals are curious about how you set up your tent.
The children laugh and are curious. During cooking in the dark I watched the beautiful clear starry sky. It is / was something memorable.
It was small, intimate and very impressive.
In the tent I listened to all sounds and fell asleep with a smile.
Highly recommended if you want to learn and know more about the people and about the history of this beautiful area.

Wauw you're doing incredibly beautiful things here!!
Thanks for all the good care, beautiful tours, delicious food, a clean bed, inspiration and wonderful memories.
I can not say anything other than: "ALAKARA NOI NOI NOI ......."

We enjoyed five memorable days in the Karamoja region in early October and highly recommend the services of Kara-Tunga Arts and Tours in Moroto. Theo, of Kara-Tunga, helped us organize our diverse itinerary before we travelled to Uganda.

We arrived at the Kara-Tunga guest house after an eventful taxi ride from Muyembe. The staff members offered us a chance to freshen up with hot showers before traveling to a Karamojong village and spending the night camping at a kraal with nomadic herders. Thomas, a native Karamojong, is a talented guide who lead our visit to the village and night at the kraal. The following day, we returned to the guest house for breakfast and soon thereafter departed with Thomas on a mountain bike tour of the area. Meeting and learning about the Karamojong people was the primary objective for our trip, and we felt fortunate to have Thomas’s excellent assistance and the support and organization of Kara-Tunga for our trip.

After cycling, we had a relaxing evening at the Kara-Tunga guest house and enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Ivan and Vicky. Over dinner, we met our guide and driver Henry for our planned trip to Kidepo Valley National Park. After breakfast the next morning, we departed in a 4x4 with Henry and soon left the pavement behind for the gravel and dirt roads leading to Kidepo. The diversity of habitats, people, and languages impressed us at every step of the trip, and Henry’s conscientious driving and assistance in the markets and restaurants made the trip a great pleasure.

Kidepo Valley National Park, the scenery, wildlife, and hospitality, exceeded our expectations. We camped in our own tent, which we often prefer to accommodations, and had access to a bathhouse. We had not planned our food preparation and cooking as well as we would have liked, so we were pleasantly surprised that there is a communal kitchen with staff at Kidepo. Daniel, the head chef, used and supplemented our food supplies to prepare plentiful, excellent meals for Henry and us. We could not have been better supported.

Our last planned event in the northern part of the Karamoja region was to hike to the Ik tribal village. We left Kidepo National Park at around 5 a.m. and drove 3 hours to start the hike. We were advised to do the shorter hike as the longer hike from Kidepo (4 hours up and 2 hours down) was too bushy. The path was steep and became narrower the higher we ascended, but we were rewarded by beautiful countryside and the hospitality of the people in the Ik village upon reaching the summit.

After the hike, we made the return drive to the Kara-Tunga Guest house where we rested, had laundry done, ate, and re-organized our packs for an over-night bus ride from Moroto to Kampala (another unforgettable experience). Theo, Florence, Thomas, Henry, Ivan, Vicky, Esther, and the rest of the staff at Kara-Tunga made this amazing trip possible for us, and we are very grateful for the experience and the hospitality. The accommodations are basic and clean (just what we needed after multiple nights of camping and a dusty road trip). We give our highest recommendation to Kara-Tunga and wish Theo and his team the greatest success in developing eco-tourism in this fascinating region of Uganda.

We made 5 day trip in Karamojaland with Kara-Tunga. Everything was well-organized. We met local guide in each village which was really incredible. Even though this region is still not much comfortable comparing to rest of Uganda, It would make us back to the unspoiled land with very very charmful people.

Once in a while, there are experiences that have it all: stunning landscapes, unique culture, meeting great people and feeling right at home. Kara-Tunga gave me all of that -thank you for this enriching discovery! This is sustainable and authentic tourism at its best. You'll come as a guest but you'll leave as a friend.

Comfortable safari tents, a beautiful setting, a welcoming team and great food make your days at Kara-Tunga go by too fast, but leaving you with great memories. Theo and his team are knowledgeable, fun to be with and caring for their guests. Their mission of contributing to the communities and environment of Karamoja makes you care and their love for the beauty of Karamoja is contageous. Nights at the Kraal, market visits, mountain camping... It's all possible here. You'll leave wanting to come back again and again!

Thank you Ivan for your lovely meals, Vicky for your laughter, Esther for your organisation, Peter for being a true tour guide at heart, Isac, Julius, Simon and Thomas for making me feel like family, Bernard and Dennis for taking care of the surroundings, Hellen, Joan and Sara for the spotless environment and of course Theo, for being an inspiration and a kindred spirit.

Love! Was in Moroto for work and decided to stay with Kara Tunga for the weekend. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds and hot showers. There are so many spots for relaxing with a book on their veranda and in the garden. I was treated to delicious meals- breakfast of pancakes with passion fruit fresh from the garden, fresh ground coffee from nearby Sipi Falls, tasty "rolexes" for lunch and the BEST chicken and vegetable pizza for dinner. Kara Tunga staff arranged a bike ride for me through the most beautiful part of Uganda (see photos) and Carol, the manager, taught us a local game over beers Saturday night. The best part of my stay was definitely the people- Jackie and Ivan were warm, accommating, and detail oriented. I highly recommend!

My partner and I used to live in Uganda, and returned for a trip through Karamoja. We travelled independently but climbed and camped on mount Kadam and visited a kraal in Kaabong with Kara-Tunga. The views from mount Kadam are spectacular and the visit to the kraal avoided many of the pitfalls of "cultural tourism" elsewhere. Both trips are well worth it!

We slept in a double room in their accomodation in Moroto, which was good value.
