The Richforest Sun Moon Lake

Despite been the oldest hotel in sun moon lake. Their interior is well renovated and pretty new. Location is within walking distance to the street food and the cable car and the pier. We have the loft unit and the ceiling is very high up.

Love the wooden structure.

There is free ride to bring us in and back to the bus station where we drop off from Taichung.

And at the basement there are 2 pool tables and activities for us to enjoy. An indoor pool and a small jacuzzi. Not a lot but good enough.

Only negative side is there is no lift but they do help us to carry up and down the heavy luggage bags.

Hotel also gave us a few good coupons for us to enjoy free 1 hour ride. The owner still very kind to allow us to rent their new bike. Very friendly and helpful owner from the 旅人bicycle shop.

Great service, package included Breakfast buffet and 4-5 course sit down dinner. Rather localised dishes, which was great. The room was spacious , has a newly renovated bathroom with tub. Fantastic service staff from reservation to dinning. Some of the furniture is a little dated and there is no central heating.

Good experience in this wooden hotel made from champor wood. Clean, spacious with 2 queen size bed and our room has a balcony which faces the lake. Best if all, all soft drinks in the fridge is FOC and there is a Nepresso machine with complimentary coffee. It's a stone thrown away from the old shopping street.

Had a great time staying here. Close to the attractions in Sun Moon Lake. Spacious room. Lots of facilities in the hotel. Would love to come back whenever I’m in Sun Moon Lake 🙌🏼

It's a very old hotel but I'm very thankful for Kristin. As a receptionist she helped us around a lot. I'll definitely come back again!!

Everything is exceptional for this hotel. The breakfast also have many choices for a muslim or vegetarian to choose. The location near to the market alley, you can stroll for street food.

We booked the Richforest Sun Moon Lake first of all as we wanted to have a relaxing and comfortable base during our 3 days at SML. There is a lot of hotels to choose from at SML however we picked the Richforest as it is a beautiful old wood structure with a lot of heritage and not like most of the others built from concrete and these dull urban Chinese city style as most of the buildings everywhere in the country.
The hotel looks amazing in the black wood and is as well located on a prime spot directly at the waterline looking towards sunset! We had a room with lake view and have been very happy with it. Of course the hotel is old (opened in 1989) but nevertheless in good shape. When entering the big old open lobby is impressing especially when you check in around the time of sunset. It also gives a bit of imperial and exclusive feeling with everything in wood.
The bathroom in our room was excellent and newly done some years ago, we had a bathtub as well as shower and plenty of space. The room in general was spacious and nicely located to the waterfront.
As we stayed 3 nights, the hotel offered us also a shuttle bus to Shuishe after checkout (we to register for that service at the reception one day before) for free which is really nice!
Furthermore I have to mention the staff is very nice and professional! The reception is always available to help with all type of requests and the room-keeping is also doing a great job!

However coming to the parts that definitely need improvement.
- As the hotel is old the carpets are stained and in our room there have been big spills of coffee on the carpet same goes for the furniture such as sofa chairs and tables - these definitely need an upgrade/rework
- The pool area is actually in the same area as the restaurant which is feeling a bit awkward and also there is a smell on that during breakfast. Furthermore the pool as well is pretty old, not heated and not very inviting
- The general amenities such as a pool table are also feeling a bit awkward next to the pool area in a very very low ceiling area and except of the pool Billard everything needs to be paid. Exercise machines are available however they are just standing in a corner on the lower floor and the location/service is not inviting at all (no separate room, just somewhere next to the pool table)

Nevertheless we decided that the Richforest deserves 5 stars as for what we expected we have been more than happy and liked the hotel and the professional staff very much!

So beautiful, so so friendly, helpful and accommodating! So clean! Smelt so good everywhere! GORGEOUS ROOMS that were so spacious and fancy. Very tasteful. Many staff members spoke English. They anticipated and satisfied all our needs with incredible attentiveness and thoughtfulness.

Excellent services, room is clean, facility is well equipped with lots of activity.

The hotel is constructed from camphor wood and that wonderful odor permeates the whole place. Service is first-rate and staff speak English. The view from the lake-facing rooms and the restaurant are directly at the waters edge, providing an unobstructed view of the water.

We did a one day trip to Sun Moon Lake and ate at the Richforest Restaurant of the hotel.
The menus had many plates. From shrimp to fish going by porc cotelet.
All very well presented and prepared.
The waiters were friendly and helpful.
We had a good family time and are stomachs said a huge thanks for this choice :-)

This is probably the best hotel in the area. It looks like a log cabin. The logs are clearly facades but it's stylish and stands out compared to the other hotels. The view of the lake from the window was great. I didn't hear my neighbors. The room was renovated and spacious. The best part was the breakfast buffet. There was a wide selection of tasty foods. The location is great b/c it's near the less traveled section of the bus route so we managed to hit the attractions there first thing in the morning before we left. It's also within walking distance to the gondola station.

There were some problems. The carpet was really dirty. The place smells humid. There was only one hanger. There was also suppose to be two free boats across the lake daily, but when I asked about taking it, they said it wasn't offered that day.

Overall, there were a lot of positives and I'd come back.

Second time at this hotel. Great service, and great view. I booked the lake view room and there's nothing better than waking up to such a spectacular view. So peaceful, a change from the city life.

The staff was very kind, helping us to take a taxi even though we were not sleeping at this hotel, thanks a lot!

Excellent furnishing. Great cottage feel and we'll maintained rooms. Close proximity to the street food, pier and the sun moon lake ropeway are definitely plus points. 😀

Nice lake view from room with kind and helpful staff. The room is clean and breakfast is nice. I dont like salad dressing but other food is good.

Romantic lunch place. Not that pricey especially with hotel rate and great quality food. If you must eat somewhere around Sun Moon lake, you must eat here for the amazing view.

No elevator but I forgot something and we call them and then they said they would help us deliver our lost item.

This is a very cozy room. and the location is great.
