Shen Yen Teppanyaki

Shen Yen Teppanyaki 饗宴鐵板燒 is a high quality teppan restaurant in Yilan, Taiwan. Chef Cheng 程智勇 is a talented and humorous entrepreneur. I visited Shen Yen on a Wednesday night in a private room for 12 guests. The waitstaffs were all friendly. The teppan chef was skillful and entertaining. The food quality and presentation were beyond my expectation. A unique dish was grilled shrimp topped with a blend of sea urchin and egg yoke. I also learned something about a special local fish called red (black) throat. Chef Cheng visited us in the middle of the dinner. He shared with us about his passion in creating a top notch restaurant. After dinner, we moved to a more relax area for desserts. He passionately shared some of his collected coffee and insight in coffee. It was a memorable dinner with good friends and Chef Cheng.

One of the best, lightly sauced because every ingredient is extremely fresh! Highly recommend even if you only drive all the way out to yilan for this, I'd say it's worth it.

Exquisite restaurant. Very friendly staff. After the food there's dessert and coffee upstairs in their comfortable panorama lounge.

The foods are beyond my expectations. Definitely recommend you to have a try. All the dishes are super fresh!

Please have your own transport and drive to the restaurant. No public transport including the taxi around the restaurant.

Driving down from our hotel, this is the only building with all the lights on for dinner service - which means something.

We are truly not disappointed, as we had the most amazing teppanyaki with the freshest seafood catch of the day. We were told the restaurant even has their own fishing boats, and picks only the best catch to be served.

Highlights of our meal were:

• White water apple
• Seasonal Yilan prawns
• Rare red snapper that has orange fish oil.
• Foei gras macaron
• Yellow broth aged chicken soup

For food lovers, this is definitely the place to enjoy super fresh food of Yilan, cooked in the best possible way.

reservation required, set menu, everything fresh and delicious. Chef repeatedly suggested to experience natural flavors. Guests moved to second floor for desert of one’s choosing. I would encourage taking stairs instead of elevator to walk off calories. Highly recommended.

This is a restaurant that focuses on fresh and high-quality ingredients rather than decorating plates. Of course, I am a person who is more satisfied with the fresh ingredients than with the decoration.

Very impressive local teppanyaki restaurant. The building is quite nice and clean. The waiters are friendly and helpful. The chef cooked very well, inducing the true original flavors of the materials. No need for lots of sauces. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and professional, and quite humble. The dishes are very delicious. We had fruits, nuts, shrimp, squid, fish, abalone, lobster, chicken soup, chicken soup porridge, rib cap steak, fried rice. The hand-made desserts are nice and taste very well. The drinks are also good. Overall, this is a restaurant that I would like to visit again in the future.

A skilled chef handled properly a table for 12 grown ups, along with a two-year kid. The pictures included various dishes out of a TWD2100/person menu.
Each course was prepared in a good manner so everyone could get their dishes roughly together. The service staff also checked on us whether the tea cups were empty, or the dishes were finished, which all showcased details of good service.
Personally I liked much of the seafood served, and the great cooking performance made by the chef. The deserts and drinks were served separately off the cooking stand, and were of great taste as well. There were also plum wine and vinegar juice available. Awesome dining experience!

Amazing!!!

Delicious courses of seafood, poultry and beef. All the vegetables and seafood are sourced locally and so those courses are especially fresh.

The service was extremely attentive through the meal and they also provided us with a high chair and helped to warm our daughters baby food.

One thing to note is that they do not have English menus, so having someone who can translate in your party will be helpful for tourists.

Awesome high end teppanyaki place. Can choose different valued set menus. Have been here on two separate occasions and have been impressed everytime by the food and service. The quality of the food is definitely top notch and some are made with a creative twist. The restaurant itself is kinda in the middle of nowhere, but it is spacious and comfortable. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Knowledgeable chef and lovely experience. Seems like the master chef personally select the raw ingredients, some of which were planted in his own farm, desserts were made his own chefs, even the soy sauce were self made. Thank you, really had a wonderful experience here.

Master Shen has an amazing knowledge of Yilan food, be it from the sea or land. Everything cooked with a heart, even the espresso was served in a small artistic porcelaine cup and tasted like in Italy. Beautiful french style desserts to round up a very good dinner. Different to other comments - No down payment for us - very reasonable bill

Reservations highly recommended. Meals are NT$1800, 2100, 2500, or no limit. There is no menu, but you can let the chef what you don’t eat. Fried rice, drinks and desserts are served on the 2nd floor after you finish. The restaurant will offer you a free cake if your birthday is that month, remember to tell them when you are making reservations.

Best restaurant in Yilan, on par with restaurants in Michelin Guide. Especially dishes garnished with fresh white truffle flakes are delightfully tasty.

Top notch service and food. We had the base $1800 course and it was wonderful. Kids meals are $450 and you can choose either chicken or steak. After dinner you are guided upstairs for dessert and drinks. A must try in Yilan!

Extraordinary dining experience at this menu-less/table d’hôte interactive Teppanyaki. The food and service is impeccable. Our passionate charismatic chef is amazing. He made the whole experience so enjoyable. Price wise, it is very reasonable considering the the heart and effort invested by the chef to personally get the top-notch ingredients for diners. Definitely a must-try for foodies.
