Waiao Beach

Perfect for a wonderful and relaxing day at the beach. It is important to note that the beach can be abit isolated and finding stores to buy water or food may be difficult. So bring your foods for picnics, drinks to sip, and definitely bring your easy card or T pass to renter the train station.

My favourite public beach in Northern Taiwan! Clean and a lot of space, it's not overcrowded or anything. The sand is very comfy to work on.

This beach is one of the only ones where swimming is allowed or at least no one is stopping you.

There's one downside to this beach though, that being there's no designated area for swimmers or spots where surfers aren't allowed. There should be an area where no surfers are allowed in order to protect swimmers and people that go into the water. A couole of times surfers nearly bumoed into me.

A lovely place to enjoy a day at the beach.
This is a large and clean beach with fine (slightly dark) sand with plenty of space to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. The beach can be easily accessed by car or by train (the train station is 3 min walking distance).
There are fantastic views of the mountains and Turtle Island.
The ocean is a bit rough (not for beginners) and it is very popular for surfing.
There are plenty of small shops near the beach offering beverages and surfing equipment rental.
Highly recommended!

The restaurant and facilities are solid. This area is where a lot of companies and groups clean the beach so it's in great physical shape.

Nice time to go is end of summer. It is also the landing area for the paragliding activity that starts up on the mountainside.

Worth a visit!

Wushi Harbor is the best place to surf in Yilan and is suitable for all seasons in summer.

One f the best surfing and swimming beach in northern Taiwan. The sand is super fine, and the view is magnificent. One side is mountain, the other side is beach. Can’t get any better. I love how chill and sleepy this place still is. Take train here is the best. The giant banyan tree in front of the train station is so amazing!

Came here at the end of February 2020. The reflection of the sky on the water makes for an incredible photo - it can look like you're walking on water! The water was pretty cold, but it was fine to dip my feet in. I saw about 10 surfers in wetsuits. The sand if very fine and black (different than white sand beaches!) There's a small 'boardwalk' but many of the shops were closed around 6pm. There's a public bathroom here.

Beautiful view and wonderful weather! Remember to bring sunscreen or you may get sunburn. There is not much public transportation, if you want to go back to train station need to use Taxi(呼叫小黃）.

Perfect place for people who love surfing!
There are so many shops would like to provide service of surfing, it’s quite suitable for rookie or few experience in surfing.

if you’re looking for a nearby beach from Taipei, this can be an option. you can take train / bus to here around 1-2 hrs. many activities that can be done: surfing, submerge to the sea, play in the sand, going to Turtle Island, chill out. unfortunately, cannot see sunset in here. 🐟

How could you not love it. Vulcanic sand, mild waves, clean environment. Great for families with kids. Lots of eye-candy, too. ;P

Sunrise is sooooo beautiful! Just so beautiful! On day hour you can do surfing, come at the full moon and stay there for awhile. Wow!

Amazing place to surf! Only 30-40 mins away from Taipei if you take bus to here. Really recommended for people who want to have a good time. Btw Please take your trash away, don’t leave it in this beautiful place.

I went for surfing and it wasn't too crowded.

This beach is a black sanded beach in northern Taiwan. It is mostly used for surfing, so far I know swimming is forbidden there. There are a lot of surfing shops where you can rent a board or take some lessons if you're up to surfing. The waves are suitable for beginners as well as intermediate surfers. The beach is very big and clean. There is no entry fee.

Awesome black sand beach with nice waves for the kids to play in! Very cool pizza place nearby with live music on Saturday nights.
