Hengchun West Gate

One of the four gates/entrances built during Qing Dynasty. You can walk along the top of this ancient wall and lookout on either side. An original piece of the wall is on display here. A kids park is adjacent as is a Taoist temple. Good place to sit and relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. The walk back to the bus station leads you through vegetable market and some unique shops. And if you walk through at night, the Hengchun old street and night market.

the most important castle door , because of the old street and history square. some restaurant and drink store near the door. some look so fun! choice Di.

during twice war and several times earthquake, was broken many times,

but at least still be reservation. so now we could watch this gate

West Gate is on small lane, so if you take big bus, can't cross this gate.
so I suggest visit here by walk.

Just love discovering Taiwan history. It's been over 10 years since we last came to Hengchun and some great work has been done to highlight the walls and make them accessible.

Good place to walk around to see the town. Some restaurants and coffee shops are close by. You can enjoy food or drinks after visiting the west gate landmark.

So cool you can drive right under and through it!The lights at night makes it even cooler!

150年前，修築這座城門，並非日後給無腦網紅和牠們的傻粉來打卡嘻鬧取樂。是臺灣現存唯一保存所有城門的城池，彌足珍貴。
清朝在牡丹社事件之後所設的恆春縣縣，動工興建於光緒元年十月十八日(1875年11月15日)，光緒五年七月十五日(1879年9月1日)落成，經費由國庫支應，但仍動員嘉義縣、臺灣縣、鳳山縣的仕紳前往督造。

西門景點。是有一個廣場可以停Ubike，而廣場旁有公園和共融公園空間。如果在附近商圈逛累了，可以到這兒休息！附近公園有洗手間和椅子可以坐的地方。
城門可以上去，可以走的路段比較短。

來踩踩點，不是甚麼有趣的地方，但可以爬上城門還蠻有趣的~

來到各地總是要把歷史景點蒐集起來。恆春四城門也不例外。

恆春城四座城門依舊存立原處，係清領時期所建城池中較為完整保存的古城，惟因西門洞太小，且路面不斷填高，造成西門門洞屢遭過往車輛碰撞而毀損………………大家開車技術好一點。謝謝

清朝時期在牡丹社事件後所設的恆春縣縣治所在，可見四個城門、城牆遺址，是台灣保存最完整的古城，其中西門是電影《海角七號》的拍攝點，亦是當地居民生活的日常場景，搭配恆春舒服明亮的陽光，是一個非常宜人的所在。

以至於周邊人口集中 商業繁榮
連接著文化廣場/三山國王廟/廣寧宮/猴洞山/老街商圈

古色古香的城牆，值得一遊

跟街道結合的城門，在地人習以為常，觀光客覺得有趣

恆春古城是臺灣現存最完整的古城。自西元1875年興工至今已近140年歷史。經歷過無數次天災人禍，古城早已非當初原貌。內政部原於1979年暫定為一級古蹟，後來因為現況修復有缺失，復於1985年公告指定為台閩地區二級古蹟。

恆春建城的主因在於軍事防禦和國防考量。始建於1875年（清光緒元年），至1879年（清光緒五年）竣工。城址是由擅長堪輿風水術的官員劉璈所選定，以猴洞山為龍脈，分別於東西南北建置四座城門，均設有砲台，城牆外有護城河圍繞，四邊並有庇佑城池的群山層巒。東西兩邊以龍鑾山（左青龍）和虎頭山（右白虎）為左右護衛；南邊面向西屏山，猶如案桌在前（前朱雀）；北邊背倚三台山當靠山（後玄武）。恆春古城可以說是將堪輿學中的「四勢」運用於臺灣縣城之最佳實例。
