Luye Highlands

Winter is the season where we miss the hot air balloon festival.
However, winter is my preferres season to visit this plave. Breazing under warm sunshine in winter. Air sky where we can see mountains around us.

Cheaper version of Turkey hot air balloons. We didn't take the ride as we couldn't buy tickets in advance and walk-in tickets were sold out. Advice to those who wanna take the ride: better go for the morning session as the hot air balloons can only fly freely in this session, while in the evening session, the balloons are tied to the ground.

Been there during Balloon festival, place is easy to find and comfortable to spend the day for a picnic, the staff in the souvenir store is very friendly. As I forgot a notebook to collect the stamp of the site one of the staff gave me a piece of paper to put the stamp on it. 🤩🤩

Came here for hot air balloon and god we’re so glad that we ride scooter instead of driving car. The traffic was crazy and maybe you’ll spend more time waiting for the traffic and finding the parking spot than enjoying the festival. So come early if you plan to drive here. We were so lucky the weather was nice. Limited public toilet considering the number of visitor, so be prepared to wait in line. Food stalls and souvenir shop available.

Went up here at 5.30 to see balloons going up. 2 balloons went untethered so good to get there early to see them. Quite a few people here but not massively crowded which was great. All free. Plenty of parking for bikes and cars

I had booked tickets in advance for a balloon ride, but it rained on the scheduled day. They refunded our money and offered us the opportunity to take photos with the balloon instead.
The next day, we returned to buy tickets for the morning round, and I recommended arriving before or about 4:00 a.m.
Even though the tickets were supposed to go on sale at 5 a.m., people were already queuing up before 4:30. Those who arrived after that time couldn't get tickets due to the long queue.

Beautiful vista. Relaxing place for lunch. Has a live camera you can send the link to friends to see you.

Highly recommend buying tickets in advance for those who want to try the Hot air Balloon (maybe 1-2 months before the event) these beautiful animal balloons are only for tourist photos, not for flying. I came earlier in the afternoon, the event starts at 5 to 6.30 pm

Pretty neat experience. Pretty good at sunrise or sunset. Sunset is much busier. Come by scooter. Bring some snacks. There's a market nearby with some stuff. Come by scooter if possible. Bit of a traffic jam for cars.

Came here twice during my trip for the 2023 Taiwan Hot Air Balloon Event & paragliding. Amazing place and event lined up! Space was spacious enough to accommodate to the crowd.

Balloons in summer of 2023 are flying from 5:30am-7:00am and 5:00pm-6:30pm.

There are additional buses not shown on Google Maps (see photo).

You can go on a thetered balloon flight for 500ntd/600ntd but you have to be around 2h early for sitting in line to get tickets (go to the ticket booth and you can sit and wait) which they started to sell from 1h before opening in the afternoon and 30m in the morning. We were there at 1520 and tickets were sold from 1600 and balloons flew from 1700.

We went on the flight and it was very nice and also the festival and balloons overall are great.

Nice place,that time we travel from taipei to taitung to experience hot air balloon....the place is very huge and the smell of fresh grass from the farm and the view is very nice, perfect to visit at summer time....

Had an amazing experience with the hot air balloon, I am so amazed and got so excited like a child 😂

The area is really beautiful with the grass land and surrounding mountains. Really enjoyed coming to this part of Taiwan for the first time. The air and natural beauty is unique to this part of the island.

I came here with my family for the air balloon festival. You need to arrive here really early (6am) to make sure you can ride the balloon. Really amazing experience that my three year old son loved.

Came on Early April for paragliding but the wind is too strong they don't recommend. Hot air balloon riding is only available on hot air balloon festival around august. Great plains though

Hot air balloon visit on Aug 2022.
- Reach around 4.30am to 5am so that you don't feel rush.
- Plenty of car park space
- Car park is expensive, NT$200.
- Beautiful

Great place to visit, especially for the Hot Air Balloon Festival! We ended up driving here with a local and we have to leave around 4am to get here and get a spot for a view! Make sure to bring something to sit on and some food, as you'll be here for awhile! Definitely worth it to come out here.

Advice to buy ticket in advanced. wake up at 3am to take a bus from Taitung city.

Nice place for relaxing. Also you can see people paragliding here (of course you can do it if you dare to!). Good getaway place for a weekend

The Luye Highlands were beautiful. I was visiting to see the International Hot Air Balloon Festival, but unfortunately it was too windy to put up any balloons. However, the beauty of the area made the visit well worth it.

The view was incredible and the large hill made an excellent spot to lie down and soak up the sun. Instead of balloons, we were treated to a view of the burners and allowed to go up close and take photos.

Travel to the Luye Highlands took a while on the but from Taitung City, but the view along the way was also quite nice. I would recommend stopping at some of the other tourist locations along that route (like Chulu Ranch).
