A very well maintained historic Wat. The Wat itself has very old murals on the interior. There are other historic items as well, including coins, writings, etc. Also on the grounds is an example of a Thai classroom and an area where The are working hand tools used to turn raw cotton to thread and a working loom with women producing cloth that is sold on site.

I love the temple architecture and the vibe. There’s a Tai Lue heritage zone at the back of the temple. We had a wonderful experience learning how to hand-spin cotton here. You can also shop local hand woven cloth here.

Don’t miss the Chinese pastry bun at the ‘Kanom Pia Khod Aroi cafe,’ located right next to the parking lot. It’s not on Google Maps, but it’s the best bun I have tried so far. The buns filled with beans and salted eggs are freshly made. Go early because we were there around 11 am, and there were only three boxes left.

Totally recommend to come and visit this lovely historic atmosphere. The live band of senior group of grandpa play the big role for this temple and wall painting is rare to see the lady boss warrior in ancient time place on the temple wall.

Beautiful lanna style temple. Traditional music group welcome all the tourist at the front. A traditional "Tai Leou" ethnic house on the back of temple with a group of eldery ladies weaving beautiful fabric.

The painting inside the main temple was painted before Phumin Temple by the same artist. Very expressive drawing with detail on the tattoo and fabric.

A real living museum.

Surprisingly beautiful and well maintained Thai Lue temple. There is some traditional weaving behind the temple & a shop to buy the products.

Nong Bua Temple is an old temple of Nong Bua Village. Well managed and maintained by local residents, Tai Lü (an ethnic group).

The antique wall painting is so stunning and the architecture itself is simple but elegant. A group of elderly perform their own folk songs in front of the temple. So impressive.

Wat Nong Bua in the small village of Nong Bua is a small local temple packed with beautiful murals painted by Thai Lue artists about 150 years ago. It is, in my opinion, just as great as Wat Phumin but often overlooked. Make sure to look for the foreign soldiers and the steamboat in the murals.
In addition, there is a Thai Lue house just behind the temple (still part of the complex) which you can visit to learn the about life of the Thai Lue people who came from southern China. Don't miss this!

Stunning Lanna temple and amazingly well kept and maintained grounds. If you like plants and orchids you won't be disappointed, one of the best maintained and charming temple complexes I've visited and I've been to many. The local ladies super friendly and it's a great place to pick up some affordable souvenirs and see local handicrafts being produced. Really well worth the effort to check out if you are visiting Nan. In the height of the rainy season the rice paddies are a sight for sore eyes. a million miles from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The murals inside the temple are of historic significance and the whole place has a serene and calming quality -not to be missed.

This beautiful temple is located in Tha Wang Pha District, just an one-hour drive from the town of Nan. With serene ambience, the place is well maintained and managed by the locals. The main temple (viharn) is beautifully decorated with Thai-Lu style carvings. Wall murals here are also a famous attraction. It is believed that they were painted by the same group of Thai Lu artists who painted the murals at Wat Phumin. There are local people who are happy to show you around and explain the history of the place. No entrance fees required.
There are several attractions near by. One I would highly recommend is Thai Lu Village- Ban Nong Bua which is just a short walk from the temple. This local museum elaborates the life of Thai Lu people living at Ban Nong Bua. They are renowned for producing traditional tribal fabric, ผ้าทอไทลื้อ. They always consider it an art and a gift being handed down from generation to generation.

A pretty temple in a village setting with detailed murals inside similar to those at Wat Phumin of Nan. Villagers perform traditional music for visitors. A woman was setting up the many threads of the warp on her handloom under a house nearby.
