Nice museum with no entrance fee and easy to get to, from the pier you only walk 1 minute.

You have to take off your shoes and the museum is air-conditioned.

A really interesting two floor museum covering the history, culture, geography and commercial activities of Nonthaburi. Located in what used to be the civic centre, everything is really well presented, and there are detailed explanations in both Thai and (I have to say excellent) English. The building is opposite Nonthaburi pier on the Chao Phraya river, and there is plenty of on street parking available.

The "Provincial Court of Nonthaburi (Old Building)" was constructed in the year 1910 by the Ministry of Justice. The location was initially intended for the construction of a central prison (Bang Kwang Central Prison) but was later repurposed as the site for a law school, as there was no personnel at that time. The construction budget for the building was 559,868.69 Baht. It was completed and commenced teaching in 1911. Around the year 1925, the school ceased its operations. In the years 1928 to 1992, the building served as the Provincial Court of Nonthaburi. Later, it became the location of Mahathai College in 2008. Currently, the "Provincial Court of Nonthaburi (Old Building)," aged over 100 years, has been partially transformed into the "Nonthaburi Provincial Museum."

The architecture of the building follows a Western style, facing the Chao Phraya River, which was a major transportation route over a century ago. The building occupies an area of 2 Rai 2 Ngan 51 Square Wah, with two brick and mortar floors. It consists of seven interconnected buildings arranged in a rectangular shape, surrounding a spacious courtyard. Each building is connected by walkways with wooden awnings to protect against sunlight. Due to its architectural and historical significance, the building was registered as an ancient monument by the Fine Arts Department in the year 1981 (2524 B.E.).

Great little free museum spread over two floors in a historical building. Turn right when you leave the Nonthaburi pier and you will run into it. It is air-conditioned, but remember to take your shoes off before you go in. Half an hour max. A nice day trip from Bangkok, with plenty of cheap family restaurants along the Main Street.

an old municipal building of the city. It was good they reserve the place instead of destroying and replacing a cement. The wood that they use was still in good condition. The building light up at night time.

Just take the Chao Phraya Express ferry to its terminus at Nonthaburi. Beautiful teak building. The museum is worth a visit and the interior of the building is better presented, and air-conditioned.

Interesting street markets near by to peruse then have a lazy lunch on the floating pontoon restaurant across in front by the river. Cold beers and tasty Thai food. It makes for a special day.

No admission fee. The museum has two floors exhibiting the history of Nonthaburi province and the building that the museum is housed in.

English and Thai descriptions provided.

Great for a short visit while waiting for the ferry, will probably be a bit too small for a special visit.

Incredible looking building and very nice museum with friendly guard. We caught the public water bus out from Bangkok to see the views and got off at Nonthaburi where we spotted this museum the guard was very friendly and took some photos of us with the very impressive clay pottery from the area and the building itself is incredible being made from teak wood!

The Museum of Nonthaburi is one of the local learning and resource centers, which helps preserve the soul of Nonthaburi. The museum is located close to Nonthaburi Pier. The building was once used as a city hall. This historical building was built from teak wood that adds much to its value in architecture. Its site is also significant to Nonthaburi province. This place had been constructed during the reign of King Rama VI. However, it has been renovated and turned into “The Museum of Nonthaburi” where historical evidence and valuable cultural heritage have been preserved and displayed for educational and conservational purposes. The museum has two floors. The interior of the building can be divided into four parts. The first one is a ‘reception hall’ where visitors can view the geography of Nonthaburi province and people’s ways of life through the satellite. Also, they can find the general information about Nonthaburi there. The second part is ‘the old Nonthaburi city hall’. In this area, visitors can see the model and learn about the architectural styles of the building. The next part is ‘The Gallery of the Old Nonthaburi, the City of Orchard along the Chao Phraya River Basin’. In this zone, visitors can have a glimpse of the historical background of the city from Ayutthaya era when the city has been regarded as ‘Baan Talard Kwan’ until today when it is known as the city of fruits and its delicious Durian. The last part is “Nonthaburi’s Fine Arts/Pride of Nonthaburi”. In this part, there are several exhibitions for visitors to enjoy, for example, the display on important figures of Nonthaburi who have the outstanding performance in the national level, the presentations of the exquisite Mural Paintings, such as, images of ascetic practices, dharma puzzles, mother-earth squeezing her hair etc. and lastly, shows on Fine Arts, namely, grand shadow play and Thai puppet. On the second floor, the first room that comes into sight is “Terracotta, the symbol of Nonthaburi” where Terracotta pots and earthenware can be seen. Earthenware is the seal of Nonthaburi province, which can be interpreted that Nonthaburi has long been engaged in pottery making. This occupation has been popular ever since. The next room is “Kor Kred and Bang Tanao Sri’s pottery” where it exhibits various kinds of beautiful potteries and terracotta. The third room, “The knowledge of making Nonthaburi pottery ”, presents the process of pottery making in details. Lastly, “The Trading of Nonthaburi pottery in the past” introduces the golden age of pottery trading. Visitors can find photos of the trading at Kor Kred, which has been remade by special technique and one can also trace the trading of earthen jar by merchants in Jar Boats.  For those who wish to make a visit to this museum, it opens Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 – 17:00, weekends and public holidays from 10:00 – 18:00. It can be reached by bus no. 32, 63, 97, 115, 175, 203, 543, and 525 or by Chao Phraya Express boat.
