Amazing place! Very localised and good, quiet atmosphere. Not a very touristy place, therefore, no queue. Lots of fish in the lake. A pleasant raft ride very close to nature. Would love to stay overnight at the area at some point if get the chance.

There are 2 main activities to do here…

1) Take a bamboo raft ride to the middle of the lake to see the beautiful scenery and you might also see the mist floating above the water during cold temperatures such as the winter season (December) & rainy season (September) in Thailand.

Each ride costs 150 THB. It is based on a first come first serve basis and you just go on the day itself. There is no advance booking of tickets. They would start in the early morning about 6am.

2) Camping. There is a park where you will need to pay entrance fee (100 THB) to enter and set up your tent.

There are also some single room style accommodation and all the rooms have private toilet & bathroom. Most of them have no sink / no flush toilet system (400 to 600 THB). Some have both sink and flush toilet (700 THB to 1000 THB and up).

As camping is the main activity here , the accommodations here are under demand. Hence , very few are put up on hotel websites. You can try to add their contact number (via LINE app) or Facebook from google maps.

I would recommend Pala coffee homestay (700 THB and up) or another bunch of bungalow type houses near the bamboo raft pier. (1000 THB and up)

There are some local food stalls (with English menu) and shops beside the road lining the accommodations.

There is nothing much else to do here besides camping and the bamboo raft ride so 1 or 2 nights is enough.

To get here , you can take the yellow pickup truck (songtheow) from Mae hong son town at 11.30am. It takes about half an hour to reach here.

There are 2 timings that the songtheow will come to pick up passengers from Pang Oung. Around 6am and 12pm.

A very charming village in the high mountains north of Mae Hong Son, close to the Myanmar border. Called ‘little Switzerland’ because of its cool, humid weather and pine trees.

Camping in the National Park , next to the large reservoir is popular October-April. December-January the place is very popular and very lively and has a vibrant walking street in the evening time. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, food stalls.

May-October it is quiet but still very much worth visiting.

As well as the camp site there are many resorts and guest houses.

Beautiful lake. Go there early morning (around 7am) to see the fog coming out of the water.
It is magic!
The road there is a bit hard, not broken path but steep.
Several local accomodation there so for sure you can fin food and a place to sleep plus the camping is an interesting option as well.

During winter, this place is worth spending a night to experience sea fog in early morning. But if you just have it a side trip and don’t want to lost in a huge crowd, late afternoon time is your choice.

The views were amazing! It was fun playing and being guided by the dogs in the area. The geese on the lake looked magical. I wished I tried riding the bamboo boat. But still, I would be really happy to come back!

I didn't go inside the camping site but I already loved the place. The fresh air. The goose. The lake. The trees. The silence. Love this place the most in Mae Hong Son.

I would say that I’m really lucky to catch the sea of the mist. The view is breathtaking beautiful and the clear air and chill whether will make you feel so peaceful and fully embrace the beauty of the nature - the pine tree, the crystal clear lake and the greenery view. The weather is quite cold like 5-10 degree so please wear winter wear with full winter gears. The paddling boat cost 150 baht per 2 person which took around 20 ministers. The activity during the sunset is highly recommended! Don’t forget to walk around the lake to enjoy the spectacular different point of views of Pang Oung.

The reservoir is a stunning place to visit.
The mountains around the lake and lush green surrounding make it a breath taking place.
You can take a raft riding as well around the lake which is so exciting.
You will also find the famous black swan there.

Amazing peaceful place to enjoy a day here, way better and worth coming than Baan Rak Thai. You can enjoy a bamboo rafting (150baht for a raft)ride here on the lake, watching swans swimming along. Accommodation and camps are available here but better book in advance.

I came in February and the weather is nice. Sunny but not hot and cool in the evening. The views are good and it's possible to take a boat onto the water. Although I didn't camp there were a lot of tents that looked sturdy. Keep an eye out for the black swans, which seemed to be separated from the rest of the water in their own area.

Phenomenal views and vibes but it was a tough trip and I think it’s the most nauseous road in Thailand. You need to be well-prepared for your drivers and your time! Overall it’ s worthy in not crowded season and come in coldest season is the best time.

If you travel to Mae Hong Son in the winter, visiting this place is a must! Make sure to arrive as early as 6 am for the spectacular view during rafting. The place is pretty safe, clean, and not too touristy. The staff is well trained and polite. There is a designated camp ground if you're into camping.

Highly recommended place to visit especially in the early morning during winter!

We visited pang oung in late january, the mornings are really cold (12 deg when we were there), so bring a jacket. The bamboo boats start at 7am and cost 150baht each for 30mins. Max 2 pax per boat, just pay them in cash. The boats are near the public carpark but if you are going into the national park it’s additional 200baht for foreigners and 20baht for locals. Would recommend to just take the boat and take pictures if you’re not keen to hike or camp inside the national park.

I would highly recommend staying in the tents here if you are travelling in Northern Thailand. The sunrise view is the best I have seen in Thailand.

Beautiful scenery. It will be an awesome place during winter for camp and other seasons, except rainy season. It has ticket for Thai and foreigners. You can stay overnight there. Have facility for bamboo rafting. Just inside and outside have a large number of cottages...

I have heard about this place for long time then plan to visit. The route to here is quite difficult but it worth to be there. The camp site is under pine tree next to water. If you lucky you will see the fog over the water.
This place also offer food that is not expensive. Also you can rent the tent along with sleeping accessories.
