Wat Prasat Nonthaburi

Beautiful old Ayutthaya Period temple. Just the faint remnants of the old mural paintings still on the walls. Exterior renovations taking place as of December 2023

It is a nice temple that dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

Prasat temple is built in Ayuthaya era more than 400 years ago. The ubosot has only one door. Thai buddhist believes that meditating in such a ubosot will bring good fate.

400 years old historical building with original Ayuthaya style. Base of the temple is slightly curved as the boat hull. The wood sculpture on the gable is still in good condition with a mix of Hinduism supreme deity. It also represent that the temple was under the care of Siam King. Facade and door frame is decorated with stucco with a wood tip at the top of each motif. This is quit a rare sight. The painting in the hall is almost fade and gone. Buddha status has been amazing on the bare brick podium.

Wat Prasat" is a temple affiliated with the Theravada Buddhist monastic community, belonging to the Mahanikaya sect. It is located in Moo 4, Bang Kraeng Village, Bang Kraeng Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District, Nonthaburi Province. Presently, Phra Maha Niti Thamatharo holds the position of the abbot of Wat Prasat.

It is believed that Wat Prasat was constructed during the late Ayutthaya period, based on the presence of a grand ordination hall. The temple received royal sponsorship and was bestowed with the title of a national historic site in the year 2310 B.E. However, there is speculation that the temple might have been built during the mid-Ayutthaya period, around the reign of King Somdej Phra Chao Song Tham. It is said to have been constructed by Chao Phraya Kala Hom (Ong Lai), who later ascended to the throne under the name King Prasat Thong. He is the royal father of King Narai the Great. The ordination hall of this temple is currently registered as a national historic site.

The impressed tourist and historic place. The main monastry is over 400 years old. Good iconic place for tourists and one who interest in Buddhism whatever arthitecture or meditation.

Little jewel of a late Ayutthaya period Ubosot in Nonthaburi. In need of some maintenance.

Amazing and visiting this temple reminds me of going to the temples when I was young.

One of the oldest temples in Nonthaburi Province. The remaining architecture is alreadly telling that it must have been gorgeous hundreds of years ago.

It's an ancient temple dated back before the current kingdom. The architecture resembles a boat, which was popular in that era.
