East Slovak Museum

Very interesting museum with a permanent collection along with temporary exhibits. First we started with the visit to the Russian church rebuilt on the outside, then we moved underground for the astonishing collection of golden coins found in the center of Košice, which alone deserves a visit. Eventually we moved to upper floors, visiting a temporary exhibition about Baroque, another one about a contemporary artist and another one about the "Century of Propaganda": really a lot to see and learn from a single Museum! Setup is modern and well built. As other visitors have pointed out, explanations are only available in Slovak language, but with an ordinary smartphone everyone can get easy access to a translation. Catalogues can be bought from the reception at the entrance, for a very reasonable price.

Great museum. In the Vault there are several golden coins treasures , the middle part is the gothic exhibition and the top is the local folklore.Make sure you go out to see the wooden church in the back yard- it may be locked, but they will come to open it for you when you ask. Buy a thicket for all 4 museums ( valid for 2 days).

Very nice museum you can go actually to safe and see treasure there. Children love it.

There are 3 buildings of museums in this area. Two are connected: the art and natural history museums. One is across the street and has temporary exhibitions and a permanent gold coin exhibition in the basement. My favorite museum is the art museum, which has several rare books and coins, though I do not know whether these are originals or replicas. The least impressive museum is the one with the gold coins in the basement. Other than geography, no detailed explanation exists for the inscriptions on the coins. If you visit, take a look at the Denmark coin section, which includes what must be a rare Jewish mint design. (October 2019)

It is a great Museum.

It's not for everyone, and Slovak is necessary for some exhibits. But I enjoyed visiting very much.

Nicely opened up museum in a historic building of Košice.
Gives a really good overview of the difficulties they faced on the beginning of the 20th century. A lot of artifacts from that time.
Collection of gold coins found nearby is impressive, definitely worth to see and visit.

The Krakow gold exhibit is really cool

One of the best places to visit in Kosice. Beatiful building, interesting exhibitions, top class institution.
And it holds the Kosice Golden Treasure - more then 2000 golden coins weighting approximately 12.5kg of pure gold.

In Eastern Slovak Museum we saw the amazing largest and richest find of gold coins in Slovakia, it's nearly 3000 pieces, unbelievable.

Good place, but no for kids (<5)

Nice, I was there to see Ice age, which was great for smaller children too. I liked the prices. It was not too expensive.
