The castle dates to 13th century, but was almost completely rebuilt in 1950s. It fortunately keeps ancient charm. Main tower provides for amazing views of Carpathians. Nikita Khrushchev held meeting with John Kennedy in 1961 in Vienna, but slept in the Smolenice castle. The castle has a romantic location in deep forests of Little Carpathian hills. It is surrounded by large and very nice park. Opposite to the castle is the Molpír hill, with remnants of substantial Iron Age hillfort.

Night wander in the castle is something else :)
One con is that dinner was a bit "regular" but done properly.
Overall, I would totally recommend.

We visited Smolenice Castle, just north of Trnava. It is one of the youngest castles in Slovakia, and it resembles a castle from the Harry Potter movies. It was designed by the same architect who designed Bojnice Castle, another beautiful castle in Slovakia. We paid for a guided tour, and the young lady who led the tour provided us with useful information about the castle's history, development, and former owners. I highly recommend visiting this amazing castle and taking a guided tour.

An interesting castle in Smolenice, 20 minutes drive from Trnava. There is no special parking. Visitors have to park about 1 km from the castle in front of a traffic sign, which prohibits further movement. The territory of the park is very well maintained. Entrance into the castle is possible only with a tour, it costs 5 euros. The excursion is interesting. The guide (a young girl) speaks English quite fluently. Recommended for a visit!

Beautiful castle, set in a lovely park. A touch of socialism, the rooms are nice with ambiance, but the absence of a professional architect is evident. Renovations began in the early 20th century - don’t expect medieval collections there. But it’s definitely worth a visit.

This castle/chateau was no listed as a nearby attraction to Cave Driny but it grabs your attention when you are coming to the village. In my opinion is worth a visit as it is the youngest castle in Slovakia built in early 20th century on top of ruined medieval castle and it has nice views into its surrounding.
You have to park your car at the church in the village which is free and then it is only about 10-15 minutes walk a little bit up hill but OK. Entrance fee was 5 euros (at the time of writing).

While on a tour in Slovakua, we had a luck to perform at the castle and also stay there.
It is a fairytale place to be. Even the weather that was really bad (rained for two days) didn't kill the overall impression.
The castle is interesting to look around and you can reach many places inside without a guide.
The food is good and plentiful with vegetarian options.
The red room where we performed has nice acoustics.
The park outside the castle is quite beautiful.
The village of Smolenice is in a walking distance.

Spring, sunrise, singing birds. There is no word to describe the beauty of the feelings of those moments. Welcoming the sun and the castle at the same time, I highly recommend it.

Smolenice is a village and municipality of Trnava District in the Trnava Region of Slovakia, on the foothills of the Little Carpathians. It is 60 km northeast of Bratislava and 25 km northwest of Trnava. The village is made of two parts, Smolenice and Smolenická Nová Ves.

Smolenice is the centre of the area under the Little Carpathians and a weekend relax destination for Trnava people as well as the inhabitants of Trnava surroundings. The surroundings of the village have a number of natural attractions with several marked hiking trails and ofcourse its well-known Smolenice Castle.

Smolenice castle is built on the spot of a Middle-Age castle. Its last owners started the reconstruction in the middle of 19th century, who kept only part of the outer fortification.

The state became an owner of the castle in 1945 when the Slovak National Council overtook it and it became its summer residence. The Slovak Academy of Sciences has used it as a congress centre for various meeting of scientists since 1953.

Nikita Khrushchev, once the most powerful man in the Soviet Union, spent a couple days in the castle, too.

Smolenice castle is open for the public every day from 10:00 to 18:00 during July and August. Entrance to the interiors with a guide takes place every hour.

In September, opening hours will change. The castle will be open only on Sunday afternoon because otherwise, it serves as a congress centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

A stunning example of the amazing history of Slovakia. Recommend visiting at a time (i think weekends) when you can actually enter the castle grounds.

Castle look far better from outside than inside. But the tour costs you only 4 eur, but there isnt really much to see inside. View from top of the tower is nice.

Very nice castle, that serves as congress center belogning to Slovak Academy of Sciences.
Direct approach by car is not possible and visitors need to walk from bottom part to an castle (up on the hill).

There are walks in the castle during summer period - these are usually busy during weekends.

Parking of cars is not very good signed for visitors and search for a place us ussual.

There is an good ice-cream in the village.

Beautiful castle on a hill above the village Smolenice. It is owned by Slovak academy of sciences accessible for tourist only in summer months June till August. The either symbolic entry fee will give you a guided visit, that will lead you through the nicest places in the castle. The tour ends on the tower top after taking more than 100 steps with a breathtaking view on the land surroundong the castle.

Lovely castle, like as from a fairytale, also with a beautiful nature around . During summer season it is opened for tourists and they are doing guided tours around the castle. Off season the castle provides conference rooms for some events and they are also doing weddings here. During the whole year they provide rooms as accommodation for visitors
