"Masjid al-Qiblatayn" is "The Mosque of the Two Qiblas". This mosque is located in Medina, Saudi Arabia. It is significant because it was the place where the direction of prayer (qibla) for Muslims changed from Jerusalem to the Kaaba in Mecca, by the command of Allah as mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah in the Quran. Masjid al-Qiblatayn is a religious landmark visited by pilgrims and visitors in Medina.

Masjid al-Qiblatain, located in Madinah, has historical significance in Islam. The name translates to "Mosque of the Two Qiblas," referring to an event where the direction of prayer (qibla) was changed during a single prayer.

Historical Background:
Initially, Muslims prayed facing Jerusalem. However, during a prayer at Masjid al-Qiblatain, the Prophet Muhammad received revelation instructing him to change the qibla to Mecca. This mosque marks that momentous event when the Qibla was switched.

Facilities:
Masjid al-Qiblatain is a significant religious site and provides facilities for worshipers. Standard mosque facilities such as prayer halls, ablution areas, and open courtyards for congregational prayers are available. These facilities aim to accommodate the needs of visitors and the local community for religious activities

Alhamdulilah this mosque has two qiblahs. This masjid looks similar to Masjid Quba. As the appearance of the masjid is white. It’s also the masjid right next to the Mountain of Uhud. Very nice mosque.

Masjid Al-Qiblatayn, situated in Medina, holds a unique place in Islamic history as the mosque where the Qibla (direction of prayer) was changed during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad. This historical significance adds a layer of reverence to this sacred site.

The mosque’s name, which translates to “Mosque of the Two Qiblas,” refers to the fact that initially, Muslims prayed facing Jerusalem, but during one prayer, the Prophet received revelation directing them to face the Kaaba in Mecca instead. The architecture reflects this dual Qibla concept, making it a visual representation of a pivotal moment in Islamic history.

Masjid Al-Qiblatin
The Qiblatayn Mosque is among the three earliest mosques in Islam's history.
Among some of the popular landmark sites in Madinah is “the Mosque of Two Qiblas,” better known as Masjid al-Qiblatain.
A Mosque is mentioned in the Quran itself in verse 108 of Surah Tawbah.
The Prophet said Whoever purifies himself in his house, then comes to the mosque of Quba and prays in it, will have a reward like the Umrah pilgrimage.
Visit this mosque and perform two rakaat prayers.
In front of the mosque, there are many perfume and date shops.

This Masjid has a very special importance in Islam because it is said that all Muslims were offering prayer to the 1st Qibla which is towards Masjid e Aqsa but one day during prayer Allah Subhana Wa Tallah asked Hazarat Muhammad PBUH to change their direction to Khana Kaba Makkah and immediately obeying order Hazarat Muhammad PBUH changed the direction during prayer and at the same time all Sahaba Ikram RA also changed the direction. So that is why this Holy Masjid known as Masjid e Qiblatain since then Muslims offer the prayers to Makkah. There is still one prayer Matt placed on the wall mentioning the direction of 1st Qibla and I also taken one selfie picture of that prayer Matt. This is one of the important Ziarat in Madina so I suggest to must visit this Masjid.

A historic Mosque in the City of Medina which has two 'Qiblah' (the direction that Muslims face while praying).

The history behind it is that in the early years of the Prophet Muhammad's prophethood, the Muslims used the face the Aqsa Mosque in Jarusalem while they pray. So Allah revealed to him to change the direction to face the Ka'abah in Mecca. The revelation was made while prayer was going on in this Mosque, so suddenly it was changed.
When you visit this Mosque you can see the two Qiblah directions (the former and the later).

Masjid Al Qiblatayn had two qiblas (Praying Direction) which was one to Mashid Al Aqsa at Jerusalem.
Then once Allah asked to change the direction, Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) turned the direction towards Makkah, Ka'aba.
This was done when he was offering a Namaz(Prayer), and inbetween the prayer he changed the direction and Sahabas (Companions) followed him on the same prayer.

Masjid Qiblatain, located in Medina, holds great significance in Islamic history. Its name translates to "Mosque of the Two Qiblas" because, during a crucial moment in Islamic tradition, the direction of prayer (qibla) was changed from Jerusalem to Mecca within its walls.

According to historical accounts, during the early years of Islam, Muslims used to pray facing Jerusalem. However, during the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), while leading a prayer in Masjid Qiblatain, he received a revelation instructing him to change the direction of prayer to the Kaaba in Mecca. This event is known as the "change of qibla."

This mosque stands as a symbol of obedience to divine command and signifies the transition from the practices of early Islam to the established rituals followed by Muslims today. Masjid Qiblatain is a place of pilgrimage and reflection, visited by Muslims to pay homage to this historical moment and to offer prayers in a location so deeply intertwined with the history of their faith. Its architecture, though modest, is rich in spiritual significance, serving as a reminder of the importance of faith, obedience, and the Prophet's teachings.

This is a special mosque for Muslims, as it was where the prophet PBH was given the order to change the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to the city of Mecca. This site is where this took place, and thus the mosque itself has those two prayer directions marked.

Outside structure of the mosque does look a lot like masjid Quba, as the white dome does stand out. Inside the mosque, it is a medium size and has ample seating arrangements.

Do note that this is a site for tourists to regularly come, so I do recommend dropping by during fajr time or odd hours where you have more relaxed time to worship. This place does bring you a sense of peace.
