The  Deva fortress is an interesting place to visit. However, you should prepare yourself to climb about 245 steps. That's one way to reach the building. Another way to get to the fortress is a normal road, but you'll still need to walk for sometime, about 20-30 minutes. Once you reach the building, the views from up there are just so beautiful.

Unfortunately , the Deva Fortress is under construction and you can see the signs only after you climb the steps or use the other way to reach the building. Make sure you take plenty of water with you, especially during hot weather. Overall, Deva fortress is a nice place. The climbing of the many steps is worth the effort.

Great experience at the top of the city!
It was our first time visiting and had the best views possible of the city.
Unfortunately the fortress itself is still under renovation and it's closed off to the public at the time of writing this review.
We spoke to the local tourist office and they mentioned they expect to be completely up and running by July 2024, hence the entry was free.
Full disclosure, the elevator is under renovation as well, so at the time of writing this review, the only way to to up to the fortress would be to walk/drive up to the 1st gate and go on foot from there. You can go around the fortress and have an amazing view of the city below.
Most probably will visit again in fall 2024 to see if we can visit the interior of the fortress as well.

Currently the ride with the cable is not available so we had to walk all the way up. It takes around 45 minutes to walk. When we arrived to the Fortress, unfortunately a part of it is closed so you can only enjoy the view from there which is amazing. When you reach to the top, near the place where it will be the cable stop, there is a machine from where you can take a personalized coin for 10 RON. Unfortunately from A and B choices there was only option B available. Still, the experience was awesome!

The views from this fortress are AMAZING. The only downside is that the lift is closed and under construction, same with the actual fortress itself. Besides that, it’s worth the hike up the stairs just for the view. POINTER TIP FOR NEWCOMERS: while the fortress/lift is under construction, most people will think there’s only one way up (the longer way) on the restaurant side of the staircase up. If you plug in directions to google maps for the fortress and make sure it’s on the driving mode, you’ll find a steep hill to drive up (gets you about 3/4 of the way up). Take this hill to the very top until you hit a dead end gate and walk from there, it’ll save you about 45 min of stair climbing!! Enjoy the views and have fun! :)

One of the best preserved fortresses, with a great view of the city. And they keep working and restoring it. Right now (June 2023) google shows it as “temporarily closed” but it’s open and access is free - just the upper fort is closed to the public.

If you want to see the whole city of Deva this is the place that gives you that view. You can access it using the elevator (20 RON/adult, 10 RON/child) or by foot starting from the city park. I recommend going up with the elevator and then walk down. Overall a great place if you want to do a walk early in the morning during weekends.

Another pice of history somewhat well preserved.
The access road is very good. Depending on what gate you enter, you'll be able to take a good hike on some steep stairs or a longer more accessible road.
Inside some of the walls are well preserved.
There is also a sign to be aware of vipers, but outside of the visiting area.
The view from up there is absolutely magnificent!

A wonderful and well preserved citadel, worth visiting. The view is simply beautiful! It is very accessible and there is no entrance fee. I would’ve like to see more informative panels around the citadel, as its history goes back to the 13th century and is worth sharing with the world.

Also, if you choose to take the elevator to the citadel, I recommend you look around for a very kind and talented man that makes portraits and caricatures! He made us one unique and personalized souvenir ❤

First time visiting, had a great tour with Dan from Timisoara City Tours. It was a fun climb and worth it for the view!

It is a good place to visit while nice weather. You can go up by cable car, the price is 20 RON for a return ticket. We visited on Sunday, there was a short line at the ticket office. It is a pleasant visit offering nice views of the city. You can find a tourist information, souvenirs and toilet at the ticket office. There is also a parking lot.

Beautiful view from the fortress, also the building itself is in the process of renovation, you can reach it by car or by cable car from the base city of Deva

Up on a hill there is a fortress that was never conquered. For many years it was closed for repairs, but now you can visit it, enjoy the wonderful view and think of the past. At the bottom of the hill there are the statues of our greatest gimnasts and also other historical buildings and parks where you can relax.

Take some water with you if it's a hot day. Lots of steps. Brilliant views from the top. Castle was closed, but you could walk to the top and around the outside of the castle.
Nice bar at the bottom.

You can park at the base of the hill near 'Parc Cetate' and go up on those 1200+ stairs, or you can continue with the car all the way to the top near the defensive walls, there are quite a few parking places availabe even for "low rider" cars :o)

This is a very nice place with a great view! You can either walk up and down to or from the fortress or take the elevator, which is crowded during high season. The last descent by elevator is at 20:50.

Free admission, lovely panorama, close to the highway. The citadel is well preserved compared to other citadels in Romania. Must see!

Old citadel but new facilities. The elevator idea surprised me, I really enjoyed climbing that hill this way, even though today I heard that the elevator got stuck (that's something I wouldn't like to experience). The view from the top is amazing. Still, I would recommend the staff to build some sort of waiting area so that people don't have to wait under the sunlight, especially during summer.

Very nice panoramic view from up there! The castle itself is not so spectacular but hey...the view makes up for it. Definitely a must visit when in Deva!
