Cafe Arcada

Opened in 1942it is considered to be one of the best in the country, with over 100 tables, Café Arcada opens its innovations on Valentine's Day. February 14th, therefore. The date is referred to as a social event, a joint initiative of António Justino Mexia da Costa Praça, Basílio da Costa Oliveira, Celestino Costa and António Borges Barreto, four of the biggest businessmen in Eborão. The establishment was inaugurated with an "American-style dinner (for families)", and it was compulsory to wear "promenade attire". The entrance was through three doors, the main one facing Praça do Giraldo. This one had a new revolving door. The other entrances were on the side via Rua Nova and at the top via Alcárcova de Cima. But the delight of this café also extended to literature. In "Aparição", considered to be one of the best Portuguese novels of all time, the writer Vergílio Ferreira gives a good account of the atmosphere at Café Arcada, particularly when he entered it for the first time in 1946, putting it in the protagonist's mouth: "We ended up making an appointment for the following day at Arcada without Moura remembering that it was a Tuesday, i.e. market day.". The writer left an indelible mark on "Arcada", because it was there that his colleague and best man, Alberto Miranda, paid for his wedding. Which consisted, imagine: "a gallon each and cakes", as the writer Vergílio Ferreira would reveal.

The choice here is infinity! Quality of food is amazing, the best plaxe for breakfast I have seen from long time.

We walked around the square to find a nice place to have a big lunch and stumbled on this café and restaurant. Ordered shrimp risotto and chicken salad. Really good and not too expensive. Worth a visit

Super cool ... Once you sort out the ordering. Best coffee I've had in days. Nice roomy atmosphere, chill music. Staff was great.

Enjoyed a coffee with milk which was very relatively large compared to other cafes in Portugal. Had a spinach pastry, chicken pastry, pastel de nata (Portuguese tart) and a queijada! All were tasty! We dined indoors - very spacious.

Had a very good visit here one morning of our vacation. Has some history...looks like it could have been a nightclub at one time.
Great food, great coffee and great service.

We enjoyed the buffet twice during our visit. Each time there were different main dishes, plus lovely choice of cheeses, sausages, vegetables and fruits. Definitely try the soup! Fair price for good and quality meal.

We just ate here. I had the picanha and my son had the shrimp risotto. Both meals were amazing! The atmosphere was laid back and the staff friendly and inviting. I would definitely visit again but I would leave room for dessert.

Scrumptious pastries and cakes! This place is like a fancy canteen, offering delicious coffee and sweets, as well as some savoury options. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. Comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for a easy, quick and delicious breakfast. Oh, btw, they accept card now 👍🏼

We have had breakfast a couple of times here. We came back because we enjoyed it. Good coffee and AMAZING pastry. Relaxed atmosphere. Quite cheap, like most of the places in this city.

Friendly staff, good food, and nice atmosphere

Local histórico em Évora, tem uma ótima esplanada. No interior acolhe vários conceitos, cafetaria/pastelaria, restaurante, cervejaria, papelaria. Tudo com muita qualidade. Recomendo o bolo Conde de Alcáçovas. O melhor que já comi.

A comida solicitada, trata-se de prato do dia que não estava excelente, cação frito apresentado mal frito, acompanhado com um simples arroz.
Solicitado um vinho a copo pequeno, trata-se de vinho corrente com preço muito acima de um bom censo, mas aqui n é praticado o mínimo da inteligencia, o que significa que n ganhou cliente.
Resultado; O português no seu pior.

Descobri por acaso este café porque procurava um sítio para comer e estar depois a trabalhar no PC. Ótimo espaço, muito boas condições e o serviço foi rápido e de qualidade. Definitivamente recomendo!

Excelente. Muito bonito o local, fez-me recuar no tempo, agora mais moderna, esta pastelaria/café é de muito boa qualidade. Merece a visita. Recomendo.
